Library [01/21]

Sam wasn't about to let a little power outage keep him out of the library. After all, without television or other entertaining electronics, the odds of someone coming in to get a book was a lot higher. At least, that was Sam's hope.

The windows in the library gave him enough light to get by, but he still had flashlights at the desk. A little extra light by which to read was never a bad thing.

Sam had been in too much of a rush to try to make power-less coffee, so he had tea instead, and got settled at the desk while he finished it off.

With no way to check his e-mail, Sam grabbed one of his flashlights and headed into the stacks to find a book to keep him occupied for the rest of the day.

Sam had succeeded in finding a book, and was re-settled at the desk, quietly reading away.

Sam didn't bother closing up for lunch, in case anyone besides Dean wanted to come by.

Sam was back to quietly reading, and hoping that his flashlight would hold out for just a little longer.

Sam took a quick sweep through the library to make sure everything was clean before he had to head out.

*pets the giant dork*

The whole problem with no power was that Chuck was left with so little to do. Really, the only options left to him when there was no power was either having sex, drinking or bothering people. Don't worry; he wasn't in the library for the first two options. Then again, he wasn't in there for a book either.

Being used to New York winters, the cold didn't really bother Chuck, and he wasn't as bundled up as some of the others students he had seen. As much as he hated that there was so little to do during a power outage, he did like how the dark gave the library a sort of ~~romantic~~ creepy ambiance. So he was in a pretty good mood when he walked up to the front desk. Chuck rested his arm against the desk and looked at Sam like he was appraising him or something.

"Hello."

The thing about working in the library for so long was that Sam had gotten used to the kinds of people who liked to stop by. So when someone completely unexpected came in, it threw him for a bit, and he found himself staring for a moment and trying not to get unnerved by how he was being watched.

"Uh, hi," he said casually. "Can I help you?"

"I hope so," Chuck said, purposely doing that whispery thing he could do with his voice when he wanted to be dramatic. "Are you Sam Winchester?"

Chuck had listened to the radio enough to know that this was Sam. It's how he knew the dork would be in the library today.

Sam had already made the conscious decision that that was a nice voice before realizing he probably shouldn't have that kind of thought.

"Yeah, I'm Sam," he said with a nod.

"Oh, good. Got it on the first try," he said. "I wasn't about to waste time looking all over the town for you. I'm nowhere near that bored."

"You've been looking for me?" Sam asked, confused and maybe a little concerned.

Chuck shrugged. "What can I say? There's not much to do when the power is out. I figured now was a good time as any. If we're going to throw insults at each other over the radio, I figure we should meet at least once."

That got Sam to straighten up a little, as there was really only one person he threw insults at these days. "Chuck?" he guessed. "Nice to finally meet you." There might not have been as much sarcasm in that statement as necessary.

"Likewise," Chuck said, though there wasn't much feeling in it. "You guessed that pretty quickly. Either I'm doubting your Nancy Drew skills or you're not in the habit of accusing many people of having diseases. I'm flattered."

"Well, there aren't many people who get on my brother's bad side," Sam said. "You're kind of special, if you want to think about it like that."

"If it makes a difference, he started it," Chuck said oh-so-maturely. "But I doubt we would have gotten along either way. Personality clashes and all that."

Also Dean dressed atrociously.

"He might have started it," Sam said, because hi, he'd met Dean, "but you escalated it. You're right that you probably wouldn't have gotten along though. Dean and I don't do well with self-righteousness."

Yep, Priestly was bored. And the library was way closer to the dorms than the town was. Sam had told him once to swing by sometime, so he decided he'd do just that.

He was probably even wearing some clever t-shirt. Not that you could see it under the layers of flannel shirt and canvas jacket. Hell, barring facial hair, piercings, and mohawk, he probably looked more like Dean than ever. . . .

"Hey, man. How's it going?"

"I'm not sure self-righteousness is quite the word you're looking for," he said thoughtfully. "That word echoes morality and virtue and, well...as others can attest, my moral fiber is torn to shreds."

Chuck was trying to be helpful. Sort of.

"You're aware of that, you're willing to admit it, and yet you still act like you're better than everyone else?" Sam said. "How does that make sense?"

It still gave Sam a bit of a jolt to see Priestly sometimes, but he thought he was getting better at it.

"Hey. I'm doing all right," he said. "How are you holding up?"

It made sense because he was Chuck Bass, duh. He didn't think Sam would get the implications of that so he just shrugged innocently instead. "I don't think I'm acting but I guess it's a matter of opinion."

His opinion was the right one, of course.

"I'm good." Priestly shrugged. "Well, I'll be better when it warms up around here. It . . . does warm up around here, right?"
