Phys Ed: Week 2, Period 1 (Fri. 1/16)

Once again, students were back in a traditional gymnasium. This week, instead of mats, a large quarter-mile circle was taped off into three lanes around the perimeter of the room. In the center of those circles stood a Satedan with a clipboard. He'd managed to locate a whistle since last semester and was the picture of a high school coach. If coaches had dreads and wore dress shirts with jeans. Nope, no uniform for Ronon.

Ronon started talking as soon as he felt like it. "Endurance is about sustaining energy over time. Today we're testing your endurance while running. Dress out, pair up, and see how far you can go. Remember to stay with your partner: if they can't go on, neither can you. We don't leave people behind." Ronon glanced at his clipboard before looking around for one face in particular. "Anyone need anything, Worf's got the TA job this go-round."

"Oooh! I doubt you will slow me down, my good man! This is a partner run! Ah-hah!"

"Yeah, but you always -- oh never mind." Priestly gestured towards the track. "Shall we?"

"We shall!" he replied boisterously and started for the track at a run. Ah! He could run forever!

Priestly sighed and set off after him.

He couldn't run forever. He was a decent sprinter, though, especially if he got to tackle someone at the end of it.

Prince Edward turned around, running backwards to see if the Priest was with him. "Come along, Priest! Ahhh, the air is fresh! The sky is beautiful!"

Maybe he should tackle Edward.

"We're inside, dude."

"But did you not see it? And the air!" He inhaled sharply. "It is fresh!"

Prince Edward was slightly delusional. Slightly.

"Come, Priest! Let us run fast!"

Oh hell. Priestly would insist he was running fast, but that required breath that was better suited to be held while he pushed forward into a full sprint to catch up with Edward.

And tackle him.

Prince Edward's eyes went a little wide but he laughed at the tackle, his mood high, as he was knocked back on the floor. Then he immediately tried to roll up and away. "Ah! But you are amusing, Priest!"

Priestly scrambled to his feet to keep running. "Hey, you told me to catch up," he pointed out. "And now . . . I have . . . the lead."

Though possibly not the breath to keep it.

He stood for a moment, grinning at the less unfortunate Priest as he ran. Prince Edward ran fast to catch up. Really fast. He was a fast sort of man! Ah-hah!

"Not for long, Priest!"

This guy was going to run him into the ground, wasn't he.

And damn Priestly and his pride, he just had to break back into a sprint to try to keep his lead.

This was kinda fun. If completely exhausting.

Prince Edward had not yet broken a sweat nor was he breathing heavily. He broke out in song, actually, arms akimbo.

He was encouraging like that!

"I've been dreaming of a true love's kiss! The fairest maid, I've ever met...!"

. . .

Okay, Priestly totally hated this guy.

And his lungs were burning.

Edward might have noticed something odd about Priestly's appearance. "What is it? Do you need water, my good man?"

If he tried to drink right now, he'd probably drown. Via glass of water.

Man, that'd suck.

Priestly managed a few more strides before stumbling to a stop and doubling over, gasping for breath.

This? This was why he didn't usually try to sprint longer than a couple seconds.

Concerned, Prince Edward moved over and attempted to place his hand on the man's back. "Deep breaths! In and out, in and out!"

Priestly rolled his eyes and flapped one hand. "I . . . know that . . . Eddie . . . thanks. . . ."

Prince Edward placed his hands on his hips. "You should run more often!"

Priestly was so tempted to flip the guy off.

But he kind of had a point.

"Yeah, well . . . priests . . . don't have as much . . . reason to run . . . around a lot . . . as princes . . . dude."

"You have a point! Ah-hah! Well then, no sense in breaking you! We shall run together again another day!"

"Not broken," Priestly protested weakly, even as he let himself flop to the floor on his ass, still gasping for breath. "Just . . . outta . . . shape."

"You do not look out of shape," he replied, not exactly looking Priestly over, but close.

"Gee," Priestly managed a smirk from the floor. "Aren't you sweet."

He laughed loudly. "Why thank you! I do try to be pleasant!"
