Phys Ed: Week 1, Period 1 (Fri. 1/9)

When students arrived, they would find the Danger Shop was set up like a traditional gymnasium, complete with changing rooms and really high ceilings.

Most of the gym floor was covered in thick, blue mats, with the enormous, body-sinking-type mats stacked underneath three ropes that dangled from the ceiling. Next to these ropes stood a giant of a man who also happened to be the gym teacher.

"I'm Ronon Dex and this is Physical Education or P.E.," Ronon smiled as he looked around at his students, noting familiar faces and cataloging new ones. "Okay, first class gets the intro thing, but only after you introduce yourself to the rope." He gestured the thumb of one fist toward the three ropes in question, which students would note differed only in how many knots were tied in them and how high up on the rope lay a wide red line. "Climb to the red line and slide back down." Ronon grabbed hold of the rope with his large hands and swung himself quickly up to the top moving hand over hand until he touched the red line. Sliding most of the way down quickly, Ronon leaped back to the ground and wiped his hands on his leather pants.

"Should be easy enough, but first you need a uniform. Last semester, some students stole and burned the uniforms at the end. All that means for you is you don't have to wear anybody else's old stuff. Lucky. Now, go suit up and meet me back here in five." Ronon crossed his arms, expecting them to move, and fast.

"Scale the rope like a pro, too," Ronon said approvingly. "Think you can make 'em all look like fools at every task?"

"Yo. I'm Priestly. Uh. . . . I like rugby. Aaaaand . . . I like making up new sandwiches?"

"Sandwiches are good," Ronon nodded. "You should bring snacks."

"Ender Wiggin," Ender replied. He thought of the closest equivalent to what he'd known-- and just wound up with, "War games. I like climbing ropes."

What? It was topical.

"War's a game now?" Ronon was skeptical. Only Wraith enjoyed playing at war, mostly because they seemed to like playing with their food.

"Gavin Darklighter. Racing's my favorite sport and...uh, I'm in the military back home," he decided. He'd shared it before but not this week.

"What do you race?" Ronon asked, wondering if the kid was talking on foot or in machines of some sort.

"I'm Molly, and I guess I like playing soccer but watching diving best." Then she remembered there was more to the question. "Um, I really suck at climbing ropes?"

Maybe she'd win points for honesty.

"You'll get better at the ropes," Ronon told her. "Or we'll hook you up with a soccer ball next go."

"I'm Liz Sherman," Liz said, "I like swimming and I'm into photography," she decided that one worked since she hadn't used that in an introduction before.

"I'm Ben Skywalker," Ben said, looking a little wrung out from the rope climb. "My favorite sport is, um, boxing, and I'm a Jedi."

"My name is Éowyn," she said. "I suppose my favorite sport would be practicing with a sword, and in my previous class, I don't believe I mentioned my brother. He is still at home, and I miss him very much."

"I'm Anemone. My favorite sport is lifting, which you don't have here, but the closest equivalent is surfing, which is pretty awesome too," she said.

"And, um, I like baking, so if you find any unclaimed pies in the second floor common room, it's probably one of my extras and you can go ahead and eat it." Pause. "Usually. No one's complained of food poisoning yet."

"Jack Burton. Uh, I like football and volleyball, and that guy," he pointed at the student with the mohawk, "makes good sandwiches from cats."

"Name's Reno, yo. My favorite sport is sparrin', if that counts. If it don't, I'll go with running, instead." He shrugged. "And somethin' about myself that I haven't shared yet? I dunno, I guess I'll go with I know how to fly a helicopter, yo."

"I'm Adam Park and my favorite sport is soccer," he explained. "I enjoy coaching and playing it." Something else to share? "I compete in kung fu tournaments back home." That was something he hadn't told anyone.

"Momoko Akatsutsumi!" She waved her hand excitedly. "Uhm, I don't really care about sports, but swimming's okay for fun, does that count? And, uhm? I hate celery and bugs!"
