Phys Ed: Week 1, Period 1 (Fri. 1/9)

When students arrived, they would find the Danger Shop was set up like a traditional gymnasium, complete with changing rooms and really high ceilings.

Most of the gym floor was covered in thick, blue mats, with the enormous, body-sinking-type mats stacked underneath three ropes that dangled from the ceiling. Next to these ropes stood a giant of a man who also happened to be the gym teacher.

"I'm Ronon Dex and this is Physical Education or P.E.," Ronon smiled as he looked around at his students, noting familiar faces and cataloging new ones. "Okay, first class gets the intro thing, but only after you introduce yourself to the rope." He gestured the thumb of one fist toward the three ropes in question, which students would note differed only in how many knots were tied in them and how high up on the rope lay a wide red line. "Climb to the red line and slide back down." Ronon grabbed hold of the rope with his large hands and swung himself quickly up to the top moving hand over hand until he touched the red line. Sliding most of the way down quickly, Ronon leaped back to the ground and wiped his hands on his leather pants.

"Should be easy enough, but first you need a uniform. Last semester, some students stole and burned the uniforms at the end. All that means for you is you don't have to wear anybody else's old stuff. Lucky. Now, go suit up and meet me back here in five." Ronon crossed his arms, expecting them to move, and fast.

Worf stepped up to the rope without knots and climbed up it in record time using only his hands.

He then dropped down to the floor with a loud thump and glared at any of the students as if daring them to top that.

Anemone clapped as Worf hit the floor, grinning widely.

She had the best Little Sibling Ever.

"Thank you," he said in a gruff but almost polite manner. "Applause however is unnecessary."

"Dedication to any form of training should be encouraged," Anemone said, parroting something she had overheard one of her doctors say at some point. She blinked and tilted her head at him in confusion. "Did I do it wrong?"

"No you did it quite well," Worf replied. "I was merely trying to be humble. Did I fail?"

"OH! That's like being modest, right? I'm not very good at that," Anemone confessed. "I know Master Skywalker says pride is bad, but I don't understand."

She eyed the ropes avidly. "He should let us race. This would be more fun as a full-contact sport."

"I'm sure there will be competition for us eventually," Worf replied. "I'm sure he would not object to us challenging anyone."

Priestly took his time looking over the ropes. He glanced at the teacher.

Probably shouldn't do the smart-ass thing and say "hi rope, I'm Priestly."

He went for the rope covered with knots. He hated climbing ropes. It . . . kinda took awhile to get to the top.

Ender took the knotless rope, and climbed it all the way to the top.

When he was done, he touched down with practiced grace on the floor, and looked up again.

Yep. Still like old times.

Gavin grabbed for the rope with no knots and, after a moment to remember how to do this easily, skittered to the top and then back down with somewhat practiced ease.

Military training was good for something.

Molly sighed as she watched at least half the class climb up the rope with no problem. Great.

She was currently considering whether 3 knots versus lots of knots. Or, y'know, spending the whole class being that girl and holding up the line but having some pride if she could climb it, or actually being able to climb to the top in a reasonable amount of time, but on the baby rope.

This was not a problem for a prince who always seemed to land on his feet.

He chose the rope without knots and worked his way quickly up, only to slide half way down before he jumped the remainder of the way.

He didn't understand the purpose!

Liz went with the rope that was covered with knots, as the last time she had actually done rope climbing had been in her freshman gym class the semester before she came to Fandom.

She managed to climb to the top of the rope, the time taken was fairly average.

Annja's face broke into a smile. This she could do. She was used to scaling cliffs and things.

She started with the rope with three knots.

Claire was a wuss. She picked the knot-coated one and still had to scramble a little at the top, but at least she didn't fall.

Like Ben was going to let a little thing like being tortured last week stop him from participating in class.

He ignored the way his joints screamed in protest as he made his way up the rope without knots, slapped the ceiling and climbed back down.

Stubborn like a Skywalker.

Éowyn watched some of the others climb the ropes to see how the task should be done - or, in some cases, how it should not be done. When it was her turn, she picked the rope with many knots, choosing to be able to complete the assignment over challenging herself on her first time.

It had been way too long since Anemone had done this, so she picked the rope with three knots. She scampered up it fairly quickly, and delicately tapped the red line twice before simply letting go and dropping to the ground.

Standing and brushing off her pants, Anemone eyed the blank rope greedily. Maybe later, if there was time after the rest of class.

Jack spat on his hands and tackled the rope without the knots, climbing it fairly easily, and making it down without falling.

There may have been minor flexing afterwards.

Pfft, rope. Reno could scale a wall at a run.

He took the rope without the knots, and made his way to the top like maybe someone had set his ass on fire, and then, once he was up there, he simply let go to get back down again.

Because Square-Enix don't need no stinkin' laws of physics.

Momoko quit fidgeting with her uniform and, not to press her luck, stepped up to the rope with the most knots. She hadn't done this in a while and although she had added strength on her side, she hadn't done much in the way of exercise since she'd started this school.

She scrambled to the top a bit faster than she expected. Her hands kinda hurt, but it felt good to use her muscles again. She probably could have used the three-knot rope after all.

Adam might have smiled just a bit. There were similar ropes back in the Angel Grove Youth Center that he'd climbed on a number of occasions. He could do this, no problem.

Adam settled for the one with three knots, having no trouble climbing it.

Jill was totally That Girl. She chose the rope with lots of knots, and it still took her approximately forever and a day to get up and back down again.
