Library; Monday [ 01/05 ].

On the list of things one would expect to find when returning to work in the library, there were books. Maybe paper. The computer, to be sure.

Bananas were not exactly on that list, but, cup of sugar with coffee and cream in it in hand, bannans were exactly what Cal found on the front desk when he came to open that morning.

Well, at least it was very reassuring to know that Doctor Jones cared about their potassium intake for the new semester.

Claire was also not complaining, not about his hands burying in her hair or the shade of red she could see him turning, but she did realize they were in the library and someone might come in anytime for ... those things. Words. Pages. Books.

She took half a stutter-step backward, just enough to look up at him. She tried to find words but they weren't really coming to her, so she hoped the smile on her face was enough.

Claire stepped back and the cloud of hair in his face drifted away a little; his fingers dragged back through it and let it go reluctantly; his attention shifted back toward Claire's face, her eyes, the smile on her face, and his slightly ragged breathing. He realized he should probably shut his slacking mouth.

Only to open them again in an attempt to say something, something that didn't come out despite his best efforts, and he blushed again while he floundered for what to do and ended up only leaning in to kiss her again. Just a light one, slightly dragging, still very nice.

The light kiss was definitely very nice, and the slightly open mouth and blush were (and Claire felt almost ashamed of herself for thinking this word) cute. Claire reached to find his freer hand and twine her fingers through his.

She should say something. Something stupid, even, so they didn't just stand there all day and stare and kiss and probably get bitten by a radioactive monkey and --

"Wow."

That was a word, wasn't it?

"...Good 'wow,' right?" Cal asked, squeezing Claire's hand a little.

It wouldn't hurt to make sure.

"Um, yeah," and now she was blushing and squeezing his hand in return. "Very good wow."

She thought about telling him he had surprised her, but that felt like it might be taken as an insult.

"Good," Cal grinned; if asked, he would have had to say it was a stupid grin, especially since he couldn't think of anything else to say. He almost wanted to just go right back to all the kissing, but that would just open up a whole can of deviant worms.

So maybe Claire still had some brain power for intelligence. He sure as hell didn't.

"Good," Clare echoed after a swallow. She wondered if she should kiss him again, but she knew that if she kept kissing him it was going to move into wanting to kiss and do other things, and that was a bit extreme for an open school library even for her. She grinned back at him, though.

"... You made me totally lose my train of thought."

"...must not have been anything important, then," Cal said, grinning faintly back. He said that, because he felt that sounded a little better than reminding her that they were talking about monkeys.

A reminder about brain goo was probably also not the best idea.

She shook her head. "Nope. Hey, are you going to get in trouble if somebody sees me on this side of the desk?"

"That would be a really stupid thing to get in trouble for," Cal answered, which worked better than I don't know, which was stupid, and I don't care, which was cheesy.

He did, however, add, "Though I have gotten in trouble for less."

"Do they have a lot of stupid rules here?" Claire asked, attempting to hoist herself onto the desk and over.

"No," Cal said, watching Claire and half expecting her to fall, "that was just in general. For all the times I've gotten detention without even doing anything."

"Ha, I got to call Cullen a freak the time I got detention," Claire gloated. She didn't fall, though her dismount could have been a little more graceful. She leaned her elbows against the proper side of the desk once she was firmly there. "It sucks they gave it to you for just nothing."

"Yeah," Cal agreed, although there was that one time in Cullen's class with Amber, but he didn't think Claire would want to hear about that. "That's my luck, though."

The whole desk thing, he decided, was extremely cute, and he couldn't help grinning a little as he plopped back into his chair on his side. "It was nice of you to come in," he said, and then wished he hadn't because it sounded lame.

Claire probably would have remembered the thing in Cullen's class, if she'd had any particular reason to pay attention to either of them back then.

She reached out and grabbed a banana. "No problem. I had fun and look, I got lunch."

"Look at that," Cal looked impressed at her resourcefulness. "One stop...err, stop for all your needs."

Claire laughed and broke off the top of the banana to start to peel it. "I need to come to this place more often. But, uh ... see you later?" Not like she was in any huge rush to go, but it felt like she'd been hanging around for a while.

It was probably best, really, that Claire talk off if she was going to be eating a banana. "Yeah," he said with a smile. "See you around."

"Later," Claire said, and was off with her banana before she or the fruit could further complicate Cal's workday.
