BWI Airport, Portalocity Port, Saturday Morning

Spirit's ride to the island had been settled and Adora was trying very hard not to be nervous while she waited for the Fandom transport to arrive. Looking out the airport window, Adora realized she'd never seen so many fleets of vehicles in all her life that weren't involved in some sort of insurrection, and found herself desperately hoping her mother was right about this Earth place being safe from the Horde.

Just the thought of her family calmed Adora and she instinctively reached to touch the Sword of Protection where it was hidden by her hair and clothing, feeling that no matter where she was, she always had a way to contact the people she loved.

Now if only she knew for sure that this room marked "Fandom High" was really where she needed to be. Adora paced the large space as she waited, thinking she couldn't possibly be the only new student journeying to campus in this manner.

"If it's not, then we're all in a whole bunch of trouble," Sookie said, smiling a little and waving. "Hi!"

"Oh, good," said Jill. "I've just never traveled alone before, and I was nervous. Hi! I'm Jill." She wondered vaguely what was this girl's deal, that she too was consigned to a boarding school that claimed they could deal with Jill's...condition.

Not that she was about to ask. That would be rude, and give away that there was something weird about her.

"I'm Sookie," she offered, wandering over a little closer. "It's my first time on my own, too. Honestly, I've never even been this far from Bon Temps."

Jill couldn't decide if a girl named 'Sookie' or a town named 'Good Times' was more comment-worthy, so she went for neither and said, "We went on trips some when I was a kid, but not in a few years. I've been, um, sick."

"Oh no!" Sookie did her very best to neither stare nor venture out with her mind to figure out what was wrong with the other girl. "I'm so sorry to hear that. You're feelin' okay now though, right?"

"Oh, um, no," Jill said. "I'm not, really. I mean, I'm doing pretty well," lie, "or my mom would've never let me go off to boarding school, but I'll be gone four days every month for treatment, actually." She reached up to fiddle with the hat covering her just-growing-out-from-being-shaved hair. Her mother would have approved of her subterfuge.

"But the school said they could handle it," she said brightly. "And the whole thing with classes only being one day a week will be much more convenient for me, you know?"

She nodded, ignoring the stab of pity she felt for the other girl. Hey, if she was this upbeat, Sookie didn't have any place pitying her. "It's kinda like college, too! Good preparation." Not that Sookie would probably go to college, but that didn't matter.

Jill snorted. "I doubt I'll go away from home for college."

"Oh, no -- " she stuttered, feeling awful. Of course she wouldn't, if she was so sick. "No, I meant the class format. But living in dorms, that's like college, too. I probably won't go away from home for college, either. I probably won't go at all, to be honest."

"Oh, I'll probably go to college," Jill said. "I don't think my mother's quite given up on that yet. It'll just be the Christian college near home instead of NYU like I used to, well, hope. Why wouldn't you go to college?" she asked, honestly curious.

"It's too expensive," she said with a little shrug. "You know, I bet you could get a similar situation going at NYU. Where you can get treatment when you need it, and all. I mean, New York's got the nicest doctors, don't they?"

"I think my mom's planning on taking out another mortgage on the house or something," Jill said. "I don't think my mom would like me being in a big city where she can't keep an eye on me. She's kind of protective. At least this place is just, like, a little island, and they swore they could handle it."
