Paige trys not to beam without much luck, "He really is. Do you believe in fate Lily?"

"Sometimes," Lily says. "Some things just feel right, but then some days I just think I'm being all girly about that sort of thing, you know?"

Paige laughs, "I know exactly what you mean, but when you suddenly come to a wierd school and meet a famous poet from like six hundred years ago and fall in love you have to wonder don't you. I mean it can't just be a coincedence"

Lily smiles at Paige's enthusiasm. "Seems like part of a bigger-picture plan to me."

Paige smiles back suddenly feeling very girly, but not in an entirely bad way. "Yeah that's what we figure!"

Paige smiles, "Well if you count the fact that we met in the pub and our first date involved wine, yes it does"

Lily smiles also, trying not to laugh. "And I had first-hand experience with alcohol at the Homecoming Dance this weekend, professor."

Paige smiles at Lily, "we could go on sir, but it might a while! I work in the pub."

"And I work in the clinic, where we see a lot of the effects of alcohol abuse."

"And I spent much of last week drunk trying to forget things, so I guess alcohol affects our lifestyles greatly!"

Paige laughs and holds her hands up, "I try!"

She leans in a little, "I could go on, but it might start to look like I have a drinking problem!"

Ah, now Miss Evans, as an expert on such matters ... suppose someone were to present at the clinic with a drinking problem. What would you recommend?

*He looks at the label on his current bottle and sets it aside, reaching for another one in its place*

Lily rummages in her bag and pulls out a pamphlet (http://www.med.unc.edu/alcohol/prevention/signs.html). "I would go through the warning signs in here," she says, handing it to the professor, "and recommend counseling or some sort of support group."

The professor runs down the list and raises his eyebrows.

Goodness me. People have these problems?

*He empties his glass and puts it on the table. He misses, catching the table on his second attempt.*

Today's my first time drinking, you know. Professor Beebeebeebeeblebrox has tried to get me to drink before, but I never tried it until today.

*He looks at the glass, as if surprised.*

Paige manages not to laugh, the teacher looked like someone who'd be ale to handle his booze, guess you never can tell!
