Phys Ed: Week 10, Period 2 (Fri. 11/14)

"Football," Ronon announced once students had arrived in the gym, tossing a ball between his hands, "is some great legendary game on Earth. People sing tributes to it and collect videos of important games. They also wear full body armor to protect from death by leather. I still say Earth is weird."

"The computer said I should call it American Football since we're playin' with our hands, not our feet. Also, the ball's not round. Helps it get better lift and speed." Ronon went on to demonstrate how to properly throw and catch a football.

He gestured to the bins of footballs and gear. "Get your uniform, a ball, and practice throwing the ball to a partner."

Eve had no clue what she was doing with the football but could manage not to look like a total fool. She wouldn't mind a partner, though.

Hannibal grabbed a football and started tossing it up into the air and catching it himself until someone else showed up to play.

"Is a ball really something that needs a lot of practice being thrown around?" Ino wondered as she wandered over to him. "I mean, I get taking a few times to try it, but seriously?"

"Well, this kind of ball is kind of hard to perfect," he explained. "The shape means it has to spiral, not just get flung."

"This one's fun because you can tackle people," he explained. "Kind of like fighting with rules but not rules like boxing has. And padding."

"Well, yeah," he had to agree. "But still, tackling's fun. We used to play it without padding in my old school. I broke a few ribs playing football."

Francine didn't really mind the uniform anymore, but football? Blerrrrrrgh. A game of trying to catch something (bzzzzt, strike one), run with it without falling (bzzzt, strike two), until a bunch of people throw themselves on you (bzzzt, strike eleventy million and three...)

So she hung around near the balls without actually touching one, as that might imply she had any interest in strikes one, two, or eleventy million and three.

"I try to be in the face of footballs," he said seriously and he moved to the pile and poked on with a toe. "My foot's still on, but it might just be playing dead."

Francine approached the pile of footballs warily. "Truthfully I'm more worried about getting hit in the head with it than the biting. Sports and me aren't exactly BFFs."

Ichigo picked one ball up and tossed it in the air. "Okay, we'll make a deal. I won't try to throw it at your head. Does that work?"

Turtle's nose wrinkled as she held the football in her hand and pronounced, very loudly, "At least it's real football!"

She felt, as an American, she was obligated to say that for her past indiscretions with European football on Jeff's account.

Lois was tossing a football up and down in the air and hoped she didn't accidentally knock someone's block off during class. She took football pretty seriously, after all.

The football was about as big as Robin was. He hadn't noticed this yet. "Hi! Do you need a partner?"
