fandomhigh | Flight Club [Flight Shed, 2pm]

Gavin hadn't ever really run a club before so he figured the first one, he could just kind of wing it and hope someone told if he was doing it wrong. If John told him he was doing it wrong, John was getting smacked in the head.

Maybe.

Anyway, it was the first meeting of the Flight Club and it was taking place at the flight shed. Gavin had some snacks and drinks set up on a small table he'd brought. Snacks always made it better, right?

"Hey guys," he said when everyone finally arrived. "Welcome to the first meeting of this semester's flight club. I'm, uh, Gavin and some of you probably know that. For those that don't, I'm a senior and I've been flying X-Wings for about two years now. Since this is the first meeting, I figure we'll introduce ourselves, tell what, if any, flight experience we have and in what way we fly and then we can just go from there. Our adviser's Professor Skywalker and he's a much better flier than I am."

With that, he nodded and waited for everyone else to introduce themselves.

Ben was a fourteen year old boy. Of course he was over by the snacks, very possibly giving the impression he'd never eaten before in his life.

Jaina wasn't entirely sure she remembered how to be social, but she was trying. Mostly she was just trying not to look scary or something.

"Jaina," Ben whined at her, "tell Gavin that Dad would totally take my side if I happened to shave off his eyebrows."

See, that wasn't anything you could just repeat without thinking. Which was why she stared at him for a moment before managing, "...What?"

"If Gavin's eyebrows just happened to disappear--and these things happen--" No, they don't, Ben, "and he tattled to Dad on me about it, Dad would believe me over him, right?"

She kind of couldn't believe he was making her be the adult here. "I think it'd be better if Gavin's eyebrows just stayed where they were..."

"But that's no fun at all," Ben pouted.

"Yeah, but I really don't think you want him remembering that in... forty years or so."

"He'll have more important things to do?" Ben tried.

"I think that would stay with me, personally."

"That's why I'm not doing anything to your eyebrows," Ben said.

"And keep it that way," Jaina said quickly. "Just... beware that Gavin'll try to get you back if you do it so who your dad sides with won't really matter when you've both got symbols shaved into your heads or something by the end."

John was glad to see there'd been no skimping on the off-brand Cheetos. He hated when the cheese was different and would have no issues telling people as much as he munched.

Worf did not chit. Nor did he chat.

He did however examine the food to see if any of it was edible.

Momoko looked over. "Uhm Hi! Excuse me, but is there anything sweet over there on your side? I'd settle for fruit if that's all there is."

"I believe there is something called a 'Kit Kat'. Since it is misspelled and does not resemble a feline, I believe it is candy," Worf said pointing to the small pile of candy bars.

"Ooh? Really?" Momoko leaned closer to look, then grabbed one and opened it. "Mmm. Kit Kats are pretty good. And they're not made of actual cats, mostly just chocolate. The pieces are called fingers, though. You can share them easily too. Have you never had one?" She snapped a piece off and offered to him.

Worf looked at the "finger" with some distaste but ate it.

And then made a face.

"Very sweet."

"... have you never had chocolate before?"

"I have had chocolate," Worf replied gruffly. "This however seems to be... sweeter."

Momoko nodded. "I see. You must prefer a darker blend. If you adjust the percentages, you can get differences in the flavour of chocolate. Plus American chocolates are pretty heavy on the sugar. Some people don't like it at all." She shrugged, broke off a piece and took a bite. "But I have a sweet tooth, and when in Rome..."

"But we are not in Rome," Worf replied. "I do not understand."

"It's a saying. The full saying is something like, 'When in Rome, do as the Romans'. In my language, we say 'do what the villagers do." It means, you should obey local customs in the place you are at so that you fit in." Momoko smiled. "You use the saying when you are doing something that you wouldn't necessarily do simply because you are in a different circumstance."

Momoko had a drink and was humming as she looked over the table for anything of a sweet nature.
