The Club Fair; the Gym; Friday Afternoon [ 10/03 ]

Turtle had been more than happy to volunteer to get help with setting up for the club fair all morning, with all the tables and posters and sign up clipboards and refreshments and subtle product placement from Turtle & Canary. There was even a great big board by the door boasting the Club Schedule.

It was a little sad to have to leave the mecca of organization she had created to attend Student Council, but she was back quickly after to get the club fair started. And scurry over to her own table.

[[ wait for the OCD or be crippled by a kick to the shins. Your choice. OCD IS UP! You are free from the threat of kicking for now. I hope I didn't forget anyone! ]]

[[ Each Most clubs will have two threads: a promotion table for interaction with the club head(s) and an OOC sign up sheet to join the club. A few clubs have an exception or two, and those exceptions will be pointed out in the thread. ]]

[[ ETA: Soooo, I made a little "oops" on the schedule, and there actually ARE no 3pm classes. So ignore those Xs. If it helps anyway, 1pm = Fourth Period, 2pm = Fifth Period, sorry about the mix up and any confusion! ]]

Rikku was fidgeting in her seat. Not her usual bouncy self. But here and willing to answer questions.

Warren glanced at the sign. And then he glanced at Rikku.

"I'll write for your paper if I get immunity from hugs," he offered.

To him, at least, it seemed like a fair trade.

Rikku drew herself up to her most professional. "Do you mean in general or just during the meeting times for the paper itself?" she asked. "I can grant partial immunity for all paper-related activities, but I'd hate to concede blanket immunity for all hug scenarios. Especially today. I need a hug."

She hadn't meant to say that last bit out loud. Oops.

Warren eyed her warily, an eyebrow raised slightly.

That wasn't Rikku's usual way of insisting that she wrap her arms around him and squeeze until he went blue. Her usual way was... somehow even more obnoxious than that.

"I'll settle for immunity during the meetings," he decided, crossing his arms over his chest. "How badly do you need that hug right now?"

Rikku shrugged it off. "S'nothing. Bad day. Just worried about some ... stuff. You're signing up? Really? We kinda need people. Most of the people who were on paper left, I think. I was kinda scared it was just gonna be me. I mean, I can probably talk enough to fill a paper, just not every week."

"Yeah, I'll sign up," Warren relented, giving his shoulders a shrug. "Doesn't require me to talk to people, much, and I can... I don't know. Vent about things I don't like, or something like that. Pretend to be productive."

...

And then, possibly against his best judgment, he held open his arms.

"One time offer. Take it or leave it."

"That'd be a neat column. Things I Hate This Week. That'd be awesome. You'd have to come to meetings but you could just glare at people, really."

Okay, she couldn't turn down the hug. She walked up to him and wrapped her arms around. Not quite as squeezy as her usual.

"Thanks," she said softly.

School paper. Well, Cal was trying that whole being a writer thing, wasn't he? He tilted his head in consideration for a moment, and, because he had no idea what exactly he might right, he thought he'd talk to the girl apparently in charge.

"Hey."

"Hiya," Rikku said. "Welcome to the table for the paper. I'm in charge this year and I really, really hope I don't mess it up or anything. You should join, it's fun."

"I'm definitely thinking about it," Cal said with a slight nod. "I, uh, well. Do you prefer that we know exactly what sort of things we want to write for it, or are you willing to offer suggestions?"

"I've totally got suggestions," Rikku said. "And you don't have to have ideas already. Warren's doing a column about stuff and people he hates. Charlie used to do CD reviews. Cher wrote up Student Council meetings. Some people do teacher or new townspeople interviews, or write about whatever recent craziness is going on in Fandom. Heck, Peter had a weekly column about how he wanted to get a pony for good grades, and I've got one just for teaching people my native language. Really, anything's good."

"Oh, well," Cal remarked, "that narrows it down."

But as deadpan as the comment was, he felt a great deal of relief. He was sure he'd hit on something when the time was right, but not being constrained to think of anything too...relevent would be a lift off his shoulders, and that always made things easier.

"You asked if I had suggestions, not if I'd narrow it down for you," Rikku grinned. "I have plenty of suggestions. But you're stuck on your own for that narrowing stuff."

Re: Talk to the Representative -- Fandom High Times

[identity profile] not-a-mused.livejournal.com 2008-10-03 09:40 pm (UTC)(link)
"Well, then," Cal nodded congenially, because he supposed, if news writing was what lied ahead for him, then specifics were going to be something to brush up on, "what would you suggest? Is there anything in particular you'd like to see in your newspaper?"
the_merriest: (hmmmmm)

[personal profile] the_merriest 2008-10-03 10:38 pm (UTC)(link)
"What kinda stuff are you interested in?" Rikku asked, leaning forward and mulling it over. "It'd be neat to have a weekly column about the ins-and-outs of Fandom, like, writing up some of the clubs or the classes, or the recent events? Weirdness or recent holidays or whatever? Or you could talk about things you wanted to change in Fandom, or things you felt were important to get involved with. What do you want to say?"
