The Club Fair; the Gym; Friday Afternoon [ 10/03 ]

Turtle had been more than happy to volunteer to get help with setting up for the club fair all morning, with all the tables and posters and sign up clipboards and refreshments and subtle product placement from Turtle & Canary. There was even a great big board by the door boasting the Club Schedule.

It was a little sad to have to leave the mecca of organization she had created to attend Student Council, but she was back quickly after to get the club fair started. And scurry over to her own table.

[[ wait for the OCD or be crippled by a kick to the shins. Your choice. OCD IS UP! You are free from the threat of kicking for now. I hope I didn't forget anyone! ]]

[[ Each Most clubs will have two threads: a promotion table for interaction with the club head(s) and an OOC sign up sheet to join the club. A few clubs have an exception or two, and those exceptions will be pointed out in the thread. ]]

[[ ETA: Soooo, I made a little "oops" on the schedule, and there actually ARE no 3pm classes. So ignore those Xs. If it helps anyway, 1pm = Fourth Period, 2pm = Fifth Period, sorry about the mix up and any confusion! ]]

"Oh, well," Cal remarked, "that narrows it down."

But as deadpan as the comment was, he felt a great deal of relief. He was sure he'd hit on something when the time was right, but not being constrained to think of anything too...relevent would be a lift off his shoulders, and that always made things easier.

"You asked if I had suggestions, not if I'd narrow it down for you," Rikku grinned. "I have plenty of suggestions. But you're stuck on your own for that narrowing stuff."

"Well, then," Cal nodded congenially, because he supposed, if news writing was what lied ahead for him, then specifics were going to be something to brush up on, "what would you suggest? Is there anything in particular you'd like to see in your newspaper?"

"What kinda stuff are you interested in?" Rikku asked, leaning forward and mulling it over. "It'd be neat to have a weekly column about the ins-and-outs of Fandom, like, writing up some of the clubs or the classes, or the recent events? Weirdness or recent holidays or whatever? Or you could talk about things you wanted to change in Fandom, or things you felt were important to get involved with. What do you want to say?"

Cal snorted a bit lightly. "That I'm not nearly impassioned enough for any of those last things," he admitted with a shy sort of grin. "But I think there might be something in that first part. Ins-and-outs. Especially on the weird stuff. I've been told I've got a hopelessly jaded look on all of that, so the perspective could prove pretty interesting. And objective."

"That sounds neat," Rikku grinned. "What happened in Fandom, and why you people think it matters. But you're wrong. By Cal ... I don't think I know your second name."

"Stephanides," Cal offered with a grin. "I think the title could be a little more streamlined, but I do like it."

"I like long titles," she said. "Stephanides. Nifty. I don't have a second name. You people here have so many names."

"Only...about...three, usually," Cal said, a bit reluctantly because he'd rather not mention to Rikku what his middle name was. "And, I mean, you have a name name. My Cal to your Rikku. But then there's the last name, which is...you know, I can't tell you how it started, but it's in recognition of your family name, you know? I'm from the Stephanides family, so I'm Cal Stephanides. Ages upon ages ago, there was probably some guy, called just Stephanides, who started it all. But after a while, he was all, 'okay, I can't call all my grandchildren Stephanides, too. It'll get confusing. So you're Milton, and you're Theo, and you're Desdemona, and you're Lefty. All Stephanides, though, so everyone knows you're my family.' And ta-da! Last names."

Rikku grinned. "That's kinda neat," she said. "So ... you're all related to each other? We ... still use tribe names, where I'm from. I'm Rikku, of the Al Bhed. Seymour of the Guado people would be Seymour Guado, to anyone who isn't a Guado, and Seymour to anyone who was. Maybe it's just a smaller world."

"Exactly," Cal nodded. "So you could be Rikku Al Bhed if you wanted. Which is actually a very cool sounding name."
