Library [09/25]

It was a very annoyed Sam Winchester who opened the library in the morning. His date with Peter had been foiled and he'd gone back to his room feeling like a complete idiot.

And then he'd woken up with breasts. Again.

As much as he wanted to do nothing more than hide in his room, Sam took his job seriously enough to show up and get settled behind the desk. Without Dawn this time around, he had no access to girl clothes, so he'd had to do his best with the smallest clothes he owned. He hoped that if he stayed behind the desk, no one would notice he wasn't wearing shoes. Or a bra.

He could already tell it was going to be an unbearable day.

Sam sighed, wondering if he really wanted to talk about this. In the end, he decided it might be the only way to really get Jess to understand.

"When I was a baby, my mother was killed by a demon, and to make a very long story short, there's a chance that someday, that demon's going to come back for me. And when he does, he's going to hurt the people I care about, and it's entirely possible that he's going to make me hurt the people I care about. Peter knows all of this, and his only reaction, no matter how bad things get, is to promise me he'll save me and that when it's all over, he'll help me pick up the pieces. That's the kind of person Peter is. Once he gets it in his head that he wants to be around someone, that's it, no matter how awful you think you are."

As soon as Sam mentioned the word "demon," Jess was certain Sam was yanking his chain. But he sounded so serious while he talked that he ended up adding demons to his list of weird things that might be true here, and what Sam was saying sank in a little.

"I just want him to leave me alone," he said, sounding a bit more worried about that than he'd wanted to.

"Why?" Sam asked. "I mean, maybe I'm biased, but why don't you want to be friends with Peter? I don't get it."

"He's not the kind of person I want to be friends with, okay? The people I like to hang out with, they don't ask a lot of questions about my personal life. They don't want to talk about feelings. They let my business stay my business, and for all that Peter claims he's not gonna make me talk? I know that's what he wants."

Jess sighed and rolled his eyes, but in the end, he nodded. "Yeah, it does."

"Okay, look. You can push Peter away, but he's only going to come back stronger. You can lie to him and make up a fake life story when he starts asking for details? But he's going to know. If you want advice on how to get rid of him, you're not going to get it from me, because I haven't been able to do it either, and God knows there are times I've wanted to, for his own good." Sam sighed softly. "If you want though, I can try to convince him to lay off and sic his empathy on someone else."

"Thank you," Jess said, willing to let some relief show if it meant driving home to Sam how badly he wanted this. He got up, and pushed the chair back under the desk. "I'd better let you get back to your womanly duties."

"Bite me," Sam shot back, glaring a little again. "Try to remember what I said about Peter, okay?"

Jess wasn't sure if that would help, but he still gave Sam a nod before heading out of the library, and going off to class.
