Sex Ed, Wednesday, Period 2, Class #4

"Good morning," Edward said. "I hope everyone got through this weekend safely. Today we are discussing puberty." He talked for a few minutes about the biological changes that cause puberty and the results for both boys and girls.

"Since puberty can be very different for boys and girls, we are going to split up for the remainder of the class period. I had hoped my sister Alice would be here today to talk to the girls, but she was unable to make it. Fortunately, Miss Bennet has graciously agreed to talk to you, ladies. Since you girls outnumber us, you remain here and she'll be with you in just a moment. I hope you will take this chance to ask her any questions you would not feel comfortable discussing with me.

"Boys, we'll go to the room next door and have our discussion. All of you - if there are any questions you don't feel comfortable bringing up today, please remember that the question box is available to you as well."

Edward gestured for the boys to follow him from the room.

"Good morning, class," Miss Bennet said, entering the room briskly and nodding to the girls. "Some of you may know me from Literature class. My name is Miss Elizabeth Bennet. Your instructor, Mr. Cullen, requested that I assist in today's lecture, as he felt some of the topics might be of a sensitive nature and be uncomfortable to discuss as a male tutor with female pupils."

"This week, we are, of course, to be discussing ..." She glanced at the desk, looking for the notes she would presume he had left for his sister, Alice, who was unable to attend. She lifted a sheet of paper, smiled at them, and skimmed it. Her eyes widened as words and phrases leaped out at her.

"Puberty," she said, weakly.

Please hold one moment while the very proper Miss Elizabeth Bennet attempts to regain her composure.

"Yes. Of course. Puberty. What else should we be discussing?" She was recovering valiantly, or at least attempting as much. "Now. You are all young ladies, I would presume, and therefore have already ... noticed many of the ... topics which will constitute our lecture for today. Puberty. Is where a young girl progresses into a young lady. It is not spoken of, in cultured societies, as it is seen as vulgar, but this is an educational lecture and so some impropriety must be forgiven. Therefore. Puberty."

If Miss Bennet where the sort of individual to drink, one might say she was needing a rather stiff shot at the moment.

"Well. As one makes those gradual changes, one may notice ... oddities. In one's form and carriage. One may begin to curve, unexpectedly, where previously one was very slim and boyish. One may begin to wear a corset, under one's dress, to support one's figure, and the ... curves which may require support. One becomes taller, and hopefully one walks with a more elegant gait."

"One would presume that all of you are, indeed, experiencing your ... monthly courses (http://familysurvey.com/teen/sexual_health/girls/menstrual_problems.html)," Miss Bennet said, a spot of color appearing on each cheek. "One may be somewhat unpleasant during that time, as one feels rather inconvenienced and possibly quite ill. One must remember, as a lady, to keep as cheery a countenance as possible, though I recommend avoiding those who vex you and relying heavily on tea. If you have not experienced your monthly courses, one recommends a visit to a kindly doctor who might determine the cause, although some individuals begin theirs at a later time than others."

She squinted at the notes again. "I shall have to assume that 'tampons' is some new phrasing of which I am unaware. Do note that there are sources which reassure you that your virtue is intact (http://familysurvey.com/teen/sexual_health/girls/virgin.html) despite their usage. Terribly reassuring, that. They seem to relate to 'periods.' One hopes commas, likewise, have their virtue untouched."

"One should also ... examine (http://familysurvey.com/teen/sexual_health/girls/bse.html) one's ... self frequently, though I cannot imagine why. At any regard, please do so, as it seems to be important." She looked around the room again, feeling somewhat faint. "I believe this is where I am to ask if you have questions?"

Molly raised her hand. "Seriously? Corsets? Isn't that kinda...kinky for people who are supposed to not have sex?"

Miss Bennet blinked at the girl in mild confusion. "One must properly support one's self," she said. "I had not realized unmentionables were now considered optional."

"Only if you can walk around without knocking yourself out if you have to break into a jog," she said, shrugging one shoulder. She couldn't go braless, but others could. "Oh, and they're completely mentionable now. Can we get back to the corsets? Isn't that more of a black leather and piercing kind of thing these days?"

Eliza closed her eyes and heartily wished that she were someone else entirely.

"I'm not in the manner of understanding you," she said. "Undergarments made of leather would be highly impractical. They would be clearly visible under all but the heaviest materials, and not terribly comfortable."

She was going to regret asking this, she felt. "Why would one pierce a corset?"

Molly couldn't help staring at Eliza. "That's kinda the point of wearing a leather corset. And you don't wear it under anything, you just...wear it. Like, out."

"No," she shook her head at the misunderstanding, "You pierce yourself."

She stuck out her tongue to show off the metal ball on the top of the piercing. "See?" She swallowed the saliva that had pooled in her mouth. "It increases the stimulation."

Claire was containing her laughter, but barely -- she was turning red and had her hand over her mouth.

She had decided she loved Molly.

Eliza kept thinking that she was accustomed to this island. Not its vagaries and strangenesses, but at least cultured enough that she would not openly stare at any of the individuals passing by.

Eliza kept discovering how very wrong she was.

"Has someone bolted your tongue?"

"Uh huh. I couldn't eat for like, a solid month. I could take it out, but it'd close up, and then I'd just have to go through the whole thing again. I have others, too, but I don't usually show them off."

She glanced around at the other girls. "I guess I could, since it's not like they're anywhere that everyone here hasn't seen before, but it's still class."

Miss Eliza Bennet was never doing another favour for another teacher again.

"I am very sorry for what happened to your tongue," she said, drawing herself up as best she could. "Pray do not illustrate further; I do believe we all understand."

She didn't want to imagine where the other metal rods were, or what one might do during a thunder-shower.

"You don't have to be sorry. Like I said, I did it on purpose and for good reasons." Not that she'd really had a chance to try it out yet, but she'd get there eventually.

Eliza instructed herself firmly not to ask the girl what possible reason she might have to mutilate herself in this fashion.

"Might I inquire as to your reasoning?"

"Rumor is that it drives the guys nuts. In the good way."

Kaylee raised her hand eagerly. "So, corsets are for if you're all endowed-like, right? But what if you're kinda skinny an' teeny?" She gestured at herself. "You got anything to wear that'd kinda enhance what I do got?"

She paused, and added, "An' why am I walkin' with a gate?"

Re: Girls! Puberty Talk with Miss Bennet - Part Two

[identity profile] clevermsbennet.livejournal.com 2008-09-25 02:24 am (UTC)(link)
Eliza considered this for a few moments. "Actually, I believe most undergarments do enhance one's own ... assets," she managed, miming the barest hint of what she meant. "Lifting and supporting both ends of the hourglass while smoothing out the middle."

She tried to parse the girl's last question. "One mustn't be awkward," she suggested. "Better to have an elegant gait in one's step, is it not?"

"...I dunno what you wear, ma'am, but I just wear normal bras that don't do nothin' t'my middle. But! But d'you know how to make stuff look bigger? 'Cause it always just looks lumpy when I try t'stuff." She considered the last bit, and added, "An' I try not t'be awkward but sometimes you can't help it! But I try t'be all elegant-like, I do."

"Bras?" Eliza asked. "I see. I shall have to ... research the point. My apologies, my information appears to be somewhat outdated."

As was her entire being, but that was of no matter.

"Elegance is, in part, a matter of perception," she said kindly. "There were those from London who found my town to have rather inferior manners as compared to the refinements of the city, but we conducted ourselves with decorum in all things. Having dignity at all times is the central part; the rest will come in time."
