Sam was glad to be back in the library, even if he was going to have to get used to being there on Thursdays. Wanting to make a good impression on the new librarian, he got to the library early to get everything set up long before he opened the doors to everyone else.

Sam rolled his eyes. "Fine, if it'll really make your day that much."

"In fact it will," Peter said.

Sam smiled softly. "I've been making sure I've been as busy as possible. That's helped," he said.

Peter smiled back. "Good. Can I help with the busy? I've still got plenty of DVDs we haven't watched. To say nothing of last night's Project Runway..."

"Oh no. I am nowhere near close to the level of wallowing that would get me to watch reality television to make things better," Sam said.

"But I have no one to watch with," Peter said, looking woeful.

"What about--?" Sam started, before realizing that everyone he could think of was someone who'd graduated and left. "Maybe some of the newbies like fashion shows?"

"It's not the same," Peter said, heaving a horrendously sorrowful sigh.

Sam thought about how much time Peter spent at the library with him when he wasn't even really that fond of books, and gave him a sympathetic look. "Would it be better to watch with someone who's not all that into the shows than by yourself?"

"Depends on if they're going to be a pain in the neck about it," Peter said. He heard his words then shook his head. "I think you've given me vampires on the brain. Anyway, you don't have to. I'm just saying I'm here to help."

"I don't think there's anything you can do to help," Sam said. "You've already made it clear that you don't think I'm an idiot. That's all I can ask of you."

"Sam, as your best friend I gotta tell you: you need way higher standards."

Sam laughed softly. "Like what?"

"A best friend who does more than not think you're an idiot?" Peter suggested.

"Well, okay, you've done more than that," Sam pointed out. "I'm just saying you don't need to do anything else."

"And I'm saying I'm going to ignore you when you say stuff like that," Peter told him.

"You can ignore me all you want, but I don't know what to ask you to do," Sam said.

"I'm not saying I need a list," Peter told him. "Just - hang out, distractions, go for pizza, listen to you vent. Whatever. I'm your friend. It's what friends do. What would you do for me if our roles were reversed?"

"The same kind of stuff, I guess," Sam said. "I'd hang out whenever you wanted to, or listen if you wanted to talk. I could even borrow the car from Dean and take you away from here if you needed it."

"Okay, see, there's a good start," Peter said. "How about you? Any of that appeal to you? Not that I think Dean's going to loan me his car."

Sam thought about it for a moment. "We could maybe hang out sometime? If you're not really busy?"

"We could, and I'm not," Peter replied. He smiled at Sam. "Got anything in mind?"

"Movies are always good. Or we could get food or something? Anything that's not me sitting alone in my room is good, really," Sam said.

"We could do either, we could do both," Peter said. "Any preferences on what and when?"

"I was thinking about going to that party tomorrow night," Sam said, assuming Peter had seen the signs. "So maybe sometime this weekend?"
