Baltimore-Washington International Airport, Portalocity Port, Saturday Morning

Tony's first airplane ride wasn't as interesting than he'd hoped. It was rather like riding the bus, only with less space and more pretzels. Although "boring" was probably the way to go when it came to air travel.

He'd spent a bad half hour in Customs after his flight had landed. They'd pulled him from line and fingerprinted him and for a bit he was afraid he'd be barred from entering the US. But they apparently realized he was neither a drug dealer nor a terrorist and let him through.

He retrieved his oversized duffle from the baggage claim and followed the instructions on the crumpled printout of an email from the school. He took a quick detour to buy a horribly overpriced breakfast sandwich with his shiny new American money. (Dollar bills? What was wrong with coins?) He made a wrong turn on the way back, but he managed to orient himself and find his way to the Portalocity terminal.

A piece of paper tacked on the wall in one corner of the room said "Fandom High." Looked like he was in the right place. He sat down on a bench under the sign, duffle near his feet, and clutched his laptop case as if it might walk away. (It wouldn't, would it? Arra would've warned him if that was a possibility.) It seemed he was the first to arrive. Not surprising, since he'd taken the red eye out of Vancouver. Late-night flights made it easier to say goodbyes to vampire ex-boyfriends.

A very tall man with a flowing black robe stalked towards the group. "If you're heading to Fandom, come with me," he said, not making eye contact. "If you leave anything behind, it's left. Bad enough I have to drive a bus. I'm not doing u-turns because someone forgot a teddy bear or their clothing."

He waited exactly two seconds before tapping a boot on the ground. "Well?"

Joan stared. A lot.

They sent a priest to pick up new kids? What the heck kind of school was this going to be.

She fumbled with her things, double checking to make sure she had everything.

Anakin's hand drifted up to check his hair. You know, just in case that was what she was staring at.

"Do they not have cranky people in your dimension?" he asked.

Jess rolled his eyes at the guy as he grabbed his bag. If this was what everyone at the school was like, he was going to be back on the first flight to California.

Anakin had been a teacher too long. He could feel someone rolling their eyes at him even when he wasn't making eye contact.

Something about the man reminded Molly of Harry Dresden, except for the hair. Which was pretty much her last random thought until she heard the order in his tone, and then he reminded her more of her mother when she was herding small children.

"We're not ten," she grumbled, not that it stopped her from following him as instructed.

Several smartass remarks presented themselves to Tony, but he repressed them and grabbed his duffle. He had pretty good survival instincts.

Myn blinked, momentarily taken aback by the man's crankiness. Rather than comment, he shouldered his bag again. "Yes, sir."

Starfighter Command was good at drilling in that following-orders thing.

"Thank you, sir." Donos moved past him with a respectful nod, the duffel bag's strap covering the rank bars on his chest but not the unit patch on his shoulder.

Oh, he was going to be barrels of laughs. "Nice outfit," Buffy said. No, she didn't mean that.

Ignore that she was usually dressed by the Fashion Nazi.

All right, that was a new reaction. "Uh, yeah," she said, frowning. "Guess there must be a couple of us on the new kid roster. First time that's happened. Ever." Amazingly, not many other people seemed to have her name. Finding personalized trinkets as a kid had been heartbreaking.

Lola managed to refrain from saluting sarcastically, but it was a near thing. "Ja, mein Herr," she muttered, gathering her bags together and heading after him.

Claire rolled her eyes as she loaded her stuff up and got in the van. She thought the people with freaky fashion sense were all supposed to be in L.A.

Clearly, his attitude didn't count.

Ben stared. He knew that face--it had been in the holos Dad had made Artoo show.

"Anakin Skywalker," he breathed.

Anakin had felt the Force with this one as he'd walked over, and now he looked closer. Red hair, blue eyes, his nose....oh no.

"Ben?" Anakin's eyes went wide. "You're a baby!"

Anakin drove the bus like it was a much smaller vehicle--perhaps a fighter of some kind--squeezing through spaces on the highway that shouldn't have fit a scooter.

He also seemed to think that hitting the brakes was admitting defeat.
