Library [7.22]

Making tea, Anemone discovered, was rather difficult when you couldn't convince the sink to give you regular, normal, water. The faucet had obligingly tried switching between rum, ale, and ginger ale before she finally gave up and went with the soda for breakfast.

Perhaps letting her open the library hopped up on sugar wasn't the best plan, but she did it anyway.

The Fandom Library was open. Beware the hyperactive pink-girl.

"The books on the regular shelves are books," Anemone answered, sweeping her arm to indicate the majority of the library. "Sometimes they get funny ideas about how Dewey Decimal is wrong, or what the difference between philosophy and theology is, but they are, usually, books."

"Special Collections," here she indicated the closed-off area, "Is off-limits. If you need a book from there, you have to have the librarian's permission. It's not exactly friendly."

"I shouldn't need anything like that," Ella reassured her, more seriously. "I wanted something about caring for pet parrots, and, if you have them, some graphic novels? Someone told me to read Bitterwoman or Ratman."

"Comics!" Anemone said, clapping her hands and abandoning the hopscotch to go skipping down an aisle. "741.5!" she announced, fingers trailing along the books.

Yes, she had the location memorized. It was all Bart's fault, really, for getting her addicted to them. Anemone liked the pictures.

"You like them, then?" Ella asked, following along. "I hadn't read them before."

She opened one of the books on the shelf Anemone indicated, and started flipping through it. "I like the art," she decided, a little shyly, then pulled down another book, and another.

She might be looking for a while.

"Uh-huh." Anemone regarded the shelf seriously before pulling one (http://www.amazon.com/PX-Book-One-Girl-Panda/dp/1582408203) off and handing it to Ella. "I like this one a lot, it has a panda."

Ella looked at it, frowning. "What's a panda?" she asked. "That black-and-white bear thing?"

"Yup, the bear is a type of bear called a panda," she answered, nodding. "I like the pictures in that one, and the story is pretty funny too."

She looked around the aisle before grinning at Ella. "I should go back out front, yell if you need anything, okay? We're the only ones here, so it's alright to be noisy."

Ella had slouched down on the floor, looking through the book Anemone handed her and several others. "Uh-huh," she said, clearly distracted. "Go. I'll follow. Eventually."

Aw, a bookworm!

Knowing anything else she said would be unheard, Anemone turned and went meandering down the aisles back towards the desk. Perhaps taking a slightly more roundabout path than needed, but she got there eventually.

Eventually, Ella did emerge from the stacks carrying Anemone's panda book, a Bitterwoman reprint from the 1950s, and three or four volumes from the Legends (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fables_(comic)) series, as well as a volume on parrot care.

"Can I borrow all of these?" she asked. "The characters in these here - " she tapped the cover of the first Legends -- "are exactly like the fairy stories at home, just with slight differences, of course."

"Sure!" Anemone quickly checked the books out, taking a moment to coo over Ella's choices. "Oh, I like those, fairy stories are fun."

"All set." Anemone handed the stack back and grinned. "Enjoy!"

"I'm sure I will," Ella said, grinning as she hugged the books to her chest.

Hers. All hers.

... until they were due again, anyhow.
