Library [7.22]

Making tea, Anemone discovered, was rather difficult when you couldn't convince the sink to give you regular, normal, water.  The faucet had obligingly tried switching between rum, ale, and ginger ale before she finally gave up and went with the soda for breakfast.

Perhaps letting her open the library hopped up on sugar wasn't the best plan, but she did it anyway.

The Fandom Library was open.  Beware the hyperactive pink-girl.

Ella drank a small cup of ale for breakfast, and was pleasantly fuzzy from that as she entered the library on a mission to find books about parrots and possibly some of the comics Teddy had mentioned.

Which was why her reaction to the girl playing hopscotch was to clap her hands in delight. "That looks like such fun!"

Ella took a split second to make a decision. "Sure!" she said, taking the stone and tossing it.

Some games, it seemed, spanned worlds.

"Why are you playing hopscotch?" she asked, curious, after she had taken her turn.

Ella played with her braid as she tried to come up with a response. "It's just not what I expected to see in the library," she admitted, sounding schoolmarmish even to herself before she broke it with a giggle. "If I'd known, I might have come sooner."

Ella had to admit the pink-haired girl had a point.

"So those rectangle things on the shelves over there?" she asked. "They aren't really books, are they? They have to be made of ... pumpkin, and glass."

"I shouldn't need anything like that," Ella reassured her, more seriously. "I wanted something about caring for pet parrots, and, if you have them, some graphic novels? Someone told me to read Bitterwoman or Ratman."

"You like them, then?" Ella asked, following along. "I hadn't read them before."

She opened one of the books on the shelf Anemone indicated, and started flipping through it. "I like the art," she decided, a little shyly, then pulled down another book, and another.

She might be looking for a while.

Ella looked at it, frowning. "What's a panda?" she asked. "That black-and-white bear thing?"

Ella had slouched down on the floor, looking through the book Anemone handed her and several others. "Uh-huh," she said, clearly distracted. "Go. I'll follow. Eventually."

Eventually, Ella did emerge from the stacks carrying Anemone's panda book, a Bitterwoman reprint from the 1950s, and three or four volumes from the Legends (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fables_(comic)) series, as well as a volume on parrot care.

"Can I borrow all of these?" she asked. "The characters in these here - " she tapped the cover of the first Legends -- "are exactly like the fairy stories at home, just with slight differences, of course."

"I'm sure I will," Ella said, grinning as she hugged the books to her chest.

Hers. All hers.

... until they were due again, anyhow.

Intend on getting another morning of extensive research out of the way (her goal was to have a better thesis formulated by the end of the day), Adah and her heavy shoulderbag of notebooks, observances, and her own books, limped into the library, ready to give the current aide (it made her a little sad that she had no idea who was even still doing it anymore) a nod of greeting and then be on her merry little way.

She hadn't exactly expected the aide to be engaged in hopscotch. She couldn't help a bit of a blinking stare at Anemone, with a faint touch of wondering how she could be that bored with all these books around. Then again, she realized her perspective on physical games might be a little biased.

Well, Adah thought to herself as she quirked an eyebrow, at least she didn't ask her to join in. She shook her head, but there was the faint trace of a smile on her face as she did so, wondering if she could throw something anyway. She gave Anemone a slight wave of her hand, dismissing the matter for the most part and hoping she had fun with her crazy notions of an able body and normal balance and jumping, and then started limping off to find a spot to continue yesterday's research.

Adah winced a little at that, with a small sound slipping out of her to match it. Great. It would figured, as Theology was one of the areas she'd have to venture into today., but hopefully whatever mess awaited her from that corner would recognize that she was, for the intents and purposes of making it out alive, an entirely apathetic party, would let her grab her books, and then leave.
