Escape Artistry: Week 2, Period 3 (Thurs. 07/17)

When students entered the Danger Shop, they'd find themselves transported to the lush, green bank of a huge river. The water in front of them was deep. How deep? Let's stick with very. The water was also dark, meaning if students looked very closely they might chance to see the shadow of creatures lurking beneath the surface. Tied to the riverbank was a large raft with 20 oars, 5 bags of food, and 5 bags of medicine. Should any students be blessed with super sight, they might be able to see the massive rocks dotting the path to the other side through the dense fog that hung in the air.

Again, Ronon was standing in front of the scene, not looking particularly pleased while he waited for the majority of students to show up.

"Everybody on the raft!" Ronon's voice boomed above any chatting that may have been taking place. "Each of you will take a turn guiding us across the river. Try not to kill anyone or lose your supplies and we'll call it a good escape."

Rodney crossed his arms. "How about you tell me what it is and let me decide?"

"I would like you to run with me every day for a week. One mile only," she said straightforwardly. "And in return I will do something for you."

"That's... completely random." Needless to say, Rodney was even more confused now.

"Not to me," she said and returned to the point at hand. "A mile is truly not very far and I believe I would be able to make it worth your while."

"Okay, don't get me wrong, I want to hear more about this whole 'worth my while' thing," he said with air quotes. "But, seriously, why are you interested?"

"Because Ronon does not believe I can," she said honestly.

Yes, there was the TA thing, but she found it was far more important to her to prove to him that she could complete a task he gave her.

"Oh, him," Rodney scowled. Ronon ~~is currently~~ had been on his case about starting some stupid training program. "I can't believe he's involving other people in this."

She shrugged. "Then it would also get him to leave you alone, yes?"

"I highly doubt it," he sighed. "He seems to have fixated on me for some crazy caveman reason."

"But if you ran with me for a week," she said coaxingly, "that could buy you some non-interference time."

"Hmm, let me see: the possibility of not being picked on by a teacher for a few minutes or guaranteed agony everyday," he pretended to consider. "I think I can put up with him."

"Oh no," she said with a smug smile. "That would just be a nice additional side benefit. That's not what I'm offering."

"So you've said. Without actually saying anything, I might add." If Rodney were capable of raising one eyebrow at a time, he'd be doing it now.

"Well, I suppose that depends on you," she said. "I wanted to make sure you didn't just reject things out of hand. I propose that for each day you run with me, you get a boon of sorts. Of your own choosing. Whatever you wish - within reason. Seven days, seven boons. Though you could always receive more than seven, say if your first boon was for a daily thing - your food personally prepared and served for you each day, for example."

[OOC: And I'm off to opening night! SP?]

"Right, you can bake me cookies and clean my room and whatnot," he snarked. "You know what? I'm not buying it. Is Dex paying you or something?"

"He says he'll make me TA if you'll run one mile with me everyday for a week," she told him, then frowned. "But you know, I believe it is more the challenge."

"You want to work with the neanderthal voluntarily?" Rodney was flabbergasted. "You need help."

"Well, you could always take the opportunity to explain to me why I shouldn't," she suggested. "And did I mention that I would be running in fairly skimpy clothing?"

"Oh!" Rodney exclaimed. "That is just not fair!"

"Life isn't fair, Rodney," she said kindly. "But I can make it more interesting."

"It's plenty interesting already, believe me," he rolled his eyes. "And you know what? I don't think I appreciate being used like this." He crossed his arms to emphasize his hurt.

She grinned. "Here's the thing I'm learning, Rodney. Everyone gets used. The way to handle it is to use them back. Or get whatever you can out of it."

"Some of them want to use you. Some of them want to get used by you," he muttered. "Yes, that's one way to look at things," he acknowledged. "But right now, I'd rather put off starting any of Dex's crazy 'training' activities for as long as possible. Hopefully, it'll be forever, but I'm not that optimistic."

She shrugged. "I cannot force you. But I will remind you that if you chose to run with me - only for a week - you would have me at your beck and call, willing to do whatever you asked."

"That is tempting, but I don't know if I can trust myself with that kind of power," he said honestly. It had been a really long time since he'd been on a date. Then again, it had been a really long time since he'd been on a date. "One week?"
