The Library [11.07]

It was with a deep sigh of relief that Karal arrived at the libray and found no one else there. There didn't seem to be any sign of a librarian, either, so...

"Shall we?" he asked Altra. The Firecat nodded and led the way inside, Karal following closely at his heels.

Karal cocked his head, looking extremely baffled. "Lisping?"

"Yeah, lisping," he said and stuck his tongue out at Karal. "It's kinda hard when you have to do it."

Karal had no idea there was any tongue sticking out going on. "Why in Vkandis' name did you take a class on lisping?"

"I didn't," Gavin said and stuck his tongue out at Karal again just because he could. "It's on mad scientists and how to survive them. And it looks like the teacher survived about eighty zillion of them."

If Karal could see the tongue poking, he'd be tossing things at Gavin about now. "Oh. Well, he'll probably be a good teacher, then?" he ventured.

"I like him," Gavin said. "He's prettier than you are."

Karal made a face at him. "I'm quite sure student faculty relationships are frowned upon," he said, perfectly straightfaced. "You will have to keep your crush to yourself."

"It'll be hard," Gavin said. "You'll have to stop in sometime and check him out. And I don't mean that literally so don't even make a face."

Karal laughed. "I'll send Altra to class with you next week, and check him out from here."

"I'm sure Altra will appreciate that," Gavin said, looking in the direction where said Firecat had just disappeared. "How are things with you?"

"Things go very well," he replied happily. "Being back here again is wonderful. Explosions class wasn't nearly as scary as I thought it was going be, thankfully. And this," he waved at his eyes, "is not so bad."

"You seem to be getting along," Gavin said, happy to hear that. "Explosions, huh? Passing interest or just expanding your knowledge base?"

Karal went pink. "Because of Evey," he admitted. "It is one of her interests and her great skills, so I though I should learn about it."

"Awww." Gavin had to admit, that was kind of sweet. "You don't think she'll make sure you're safe and not nervous about that class?"

He went pinker, but he smiled. "She is in the class as well. That's why I stopped being scared." He cleared his throat, completely unaware of how dopey his smile had become. "But what of you, Gavin? Are things going well for you?"

"I'm not complaining," he said and leaned against the desk. "Things are good. Things are better, I should say. If it would just get a bit warmer, I'd be even happier."

"Now that I completely agree with! I had more than enough of ice and snow on the Dhorisha Plains," he said. "I miss summer." Karal cocked his head as a thought occurred. "Have you any plans this evening?"

"Other than nothing at all....nothing at all," he said and grinned.

He laughed. "Well, if you can tear yourself away from doing nothing for an hour or so, we could go down to Caritas? I'd like to see if I can throw the darts using Altra's eyes," he said, then added quietly, "And we could drink to Florian's future."

Gavin was quiet for a minute before he said, "Yeah. Yeah, I think that sounds like a good idea."

"Altra is not allowed to drink anything, though," he said after a moment, smiling a little. "I do not want to see the world through the eyes of drunken Firecat."

Gavin took a minute to imagine that.

Wait, he needed one more minute.

"I wonder..." He trailed off. "If a gremlin bit Altra, would you feel the effects?"

Karal looked absolutely horrified. Luckily, he was saved from answering by the return of ALtra, who snorted. :If a gremlin got close enough to try and bite me, it would be a dead gremlin, very quickly.:

"That is either really good or really creepy timing, Altra," Gavin teased. "You don't think it'd be funny to be a singing Firecat?"

Altra eyed him while Karal tried to smother his laughter. :I've been a singing Firecat,: he said, beginning to groom a paw. :And no, I don't want to talk about it.:

"Will you come to Caritas tonight, Altra?" Karal asked. "Gavin and I are going, and it would be much easier to play darts if I could see the board."

It was Altra's turn to look horrified. :No throwing darts unless I'm there.:
