Yes, there were more tables and chairs here. No, they were not allowed to be used for making a bonfire. Eat something hot if you're still weirdly cold.

"Yeah, I uh... that'd be where the detention came in from," Ino said. "Because, really, I'd rather things make sense when they're like that, you know?"

"You received detention?" Alice asked. "That seems a bit unfair. Have you gone? I've heard it mentioned, now and again, but I haven't been assigned one yet."

"I, yeah, already had it," she wrinkled her nose. "Most boring detention yet, really. Just sitting in a library and thinking 'bout why we were wrong."

Alice giggled. "I think I would have thought harder about how violently I disagreed with all of them."

That got a laugh. "Yeah, that's... about what happened. And, you know, talking to the others in detention. I totally didn't learn a lesson or anything."

"Were you all ruing your unfair punishments?" Alice grinned. "Plotting revenge?"

"Hoping for excitement, more like," Ino admitted. "Normally detention involves monsters, or activities. Not just... sitting 'round and thinking. But yeah, most of us? Didn't agree with the punishments. Three of them were in there 'cause they refused to crash their planes during a simulation. I, uh, can't blame them for not crashing. That's... like... fake-suicide. That's not something teachers should be asking people to do, you know?"

"What was the class?" Alice asked. "I can't imagine being asked to crash a plane. Landing successfully then counts as a failure. One should say that they succeeded admirably; they crashed so well the plane didn't wreck in the least."

"Flight and Flying, I think? Something like that. I never took it myself. But it was apparently a way to have them test how they'd react in a real crash."

She laughed though, at Alice's logic. "They did, seriously. They failed so well they got detention and the planes weren't broken."

"That's a very impressive sort of crash," Alice grinned. "And they all survived. Commendable. They survived detention, as well."

"Which, really, means they're all spectacular failures." Ino laughed. "Much more exciting to think of it that way, don't you think?"

"If you're going to fail, I highly recommend failing spectacularly," Alice said. "It's much more grandiose, that way."

"And," Ino added. "If you fail spectacularly enough you can make other people think you always meant to do it that way."

"That sounds rather like my cat," Alice grinned.

"Cats are, in general, very smart," Ino mused.

A beat.

"My brother is currently a kitten, you know."
