"Not entirely a surprise," she tried to explain. "As the war was won and it tends to happen once we win that I wind up somewhere else, but I had hoped to make it to the banquet for once..."

"Of a sort," Viki agreed. "And I get to go to school, apparently. I've never really been before. It should be exciting, and a nice man gave me coffee this morning and that's always a good sign..."

"No?" Ronan grinned. "Well, it's definitely a... It's unlike any other school I've ever been to. Or seen. Or heard of."

"It never really made sense to try," she tried to explain. "Because I can't make any plans for where I'll be. But the school already had my name down, so I suppose I can give it a try."

That got a rueful nod. "A sneeze will hit, and sometimes... off I go. I never know where I'll end up, really... so it doesn't really matter if I try to do anything because it'll just... be pointless after the next move."

"So?" Ronan asked. "All it takes is one moment to make a difference. And maybe this time will be different. And if it's not? Then maybe you've made some friends, and you can take that experience on with you the next time. Nothing lasts forever. That doesn't mean we shouldn't enjoy it while we have it."
