"Well, this is certainly a way to be greeted upon my return," Ronan said, grinning, as he came up to Johnny. "How've you been?"

"Ronan!" Johnny exclaimed upon seeing him. "I was wondering when you were going to head back this way. It's good to see you." And he seriously meant that.

"And you," Ronan replied. "I'm just glad I was able to make it back in time for second term. I almost didn't.

"How've things been here? Did I miss much of anything exciting?"

"Yeah? How'd things go for you, while gone?"

Johnny shrugged. "It's Fandom; everything exciting happens here. One of the fun summer quirks is that the island changes its geographical location every week. Been pretty awesome so far."

"Yeah, we were in Santorini when I left," Ronan said, "and I hear we're near Antarctica now. I can't help but wonder where we're headed next."

Ronan considered the other question. "Things... went interestingly. Had a couple of close calls, but nothing really dangerous, I guess. Mostly just slogging through -- lots of repetitive work."

"I wonder too," he said, his eyes on Ronan's face.

"You'll have to tell me about it sometime, if you want."

"Sure!" Ronan said, smiling. Was it hot? He loosened an extra button. He felt hot. "There's not all that much to tell, really. Just clean-up work. The big stuff's not happening for another week or so."

"So you're leaving again?" he asked, his eyes glancing down to that button undone.

"What? Oh, no," Ronan said. "I'm not part of the big stuff this time. I just got called in because I've got experience cleaning up the overlays. Although not on quite so large a scale as this." He paused. "It's a bit of a long story."

And yes, okay, he noticed that Johnny noticed the extra button undone, but he ignored it, okay? Mostly.

And Johnny totally shouldn't be staring. At all. Except that he was and he didn't give a damn if Ronan noticed or thought anything of it.

Ronan... was looking around at other people, actually, looking for new students, and so missed Johnny staring. "Meet anyone new and exciting yet?" he asked.

He looked away. "I have, yeah. Actually Peter Pevensie's sister."

"Oh, yeah? What's she like?" Ronan looked to where Johnny was looking, but didn't see anything particularly important. "I only really knew Peter through student council."

That's because Johnny was just casually glancing around, focusing on no one or thing in particular. "She's cool, nice. I liked her."

"That's good." Ronan grinned. "Well, I better go mingle some more. I've got two terms-worth of people to meet, after all. We'll catch up later? Hit Caritas, maybe?"

He knew when he was being cast off. But what the fuck ever.
