Chuck smirked at that. Chuck didn't know if all rich kids were born with a sixth sense to detect their own or if he just had a knack for it but, he could just tell that Romeo had grown up with money.

"Still, you're older than I am," he said. He stuck out a hand. "I'm Chuck Bass."

It was the shoes, more than anything, or at least that would have been Romeo's theory. Shoes and accents and ... he couldn't have entirely explained it either, but he could tell, too, even after several months away from that kind of money.

"Romeo Montague," he returned, shaking the proffered hand. "Where are you from, Chuck?"

"New York City. The Upper East Side," he said. He would hate for Romeo to think he was from Brooklyn or something. "You?"

"Verona Beach," Romeo answered approvingly. He knew enough about New York to know the Upper East Side was the right bit to be from. "It's south of Los Angeles." Or at least it was in his own world; he tried not to think about the fact it didn't exist in others.

"A West Coaster. I should have known," Chuck teased. "Ah, well, we can't all be perfect."

"No, we can't," Romeo teased back. "But some of us are stuck on this coast for now, so we'll put up with its imperfections."

"From what I've heard we're not on any American coast at all right now," Chuck said.

"In technical terms, no," Romeo had to agree. "I keep hoping the next time the island moves, it will pick a place less opposed to the season of summer than Antarctica. Even New York would do."

"Hey, no unkind words about my hometown," Chuck said, smiling a little. "Otherwise you'll be in a load of trouble should this island actually go to New York. We're fighters."
