Yeah, that response didn't surprise Chad at all either. He grinned a little, remembering Ichigo's little sisters. More that he had them than what they looked like; he couldn't remember what they looked like and when he tried...

Chad grunted, the grin disappearing and the colour fading a bit from skin. Any attempts to picture Ichigo's sisters inevitably lead to images of a female version of Ichigo, which...was not pleasant. And were even more vivid with Ichigo standing right there.

"Good," he grunted weakly. "It's...good. Good school."

The grunt caught his attention and Ichigo stopped petting Oscar Pedro. It was probably a good thing he couldn't read Chad's mind. "Are you alright?"

At least now Chad knew that there was a possibility that if they all turned into girls again, he might have someone just as ugly as he was. He shuddered a little, and then tried his best to move on. "Yeah," he grunted. "Fine."

"You'll like it here once you're used to it," he added. "A lot different than Japanese schools, but I like it."

"I hope so. I hate to get stuck here and not like it," he glanced down at the cat again. "Ino said there aren't any uniforms. Did I mention that she's a ninja? One of her friends is an alien." His mind was still hurting just a little.

Chad rubbed the back of his neck again. "Uh, yeah," he said. "That stuff's really common around here, too."

He...decided he wouldn't mention that having an alien as a friend wasn't so odd at all when your boyfriend was an alien. He figured Ichigo was dealing with enough brain breakage than to have...that dropped on him. Especially when even the Ichigo from his timeline wasn't all that comfortable with it.

"It's the normal kids who are kind of the weird ones here..."

So pretending to be normal would make him weird. He just couldn't win on the whole blending in department.

Which left him to wonder. "Do they know about..." he motioned towards Chad's arm.

Chad grunted affirmatively with his small nod. "Not everyone," he said. "But there's no point in keeping a thing like that secret around here. For a while, I wasn't even sure if I could still do it, because you..."

Because he was in Japan, and he remembered being told that his own powers had manifested partially because of...

"I can, though. Strong as ever."

Ichigo could fill in the blanks and he frowned - more so. He couldn't imagine right now telling anyone new about being a shinigami. Not unless he had no choice.

And his curiosity won out as he finally did ask, "Have there been any hollows here?"

Re: General Mingling (Summer 2008 - 2.0)

[identity profile] senor-chado.livejournal.com 2008-07-05 11:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Chad shook his head. "No Hollows."

He hesitated, though, mulling over whether or not he should say more. "No real ones anyway, but...two years, no Hollows. At one point, last summer, there was a Shinigami captain here, though." He figured Ichigo should know that much if he was asking about Hollows. He just figured it wasn't necessary for Ichigo to know which captain. "So it's not...entirely possible that we aren't going to run into things from...our version of the world."

Ichigo himself being here was a good point in that case.

No hollows. His fingers closed around his badge and he felt something inside him drop. He didn't come here to escape his duties as a shinigami. It never occurred to him that there might be some place where there weren't any hollows.

What kind of world was this? He stared at the naked cat. No hollows meant he didn't have to fight. He wouldn't have to use his bankai and he wouldn't have to rely on that thing inside of him.

"I didn't know that," he said quietly. "You'd think there's hollows anywhere."

[identity profile] senor-chado.livejournal.com 2008-07-05 11:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Chad shrugged. "We only knew they even existed not too long ago," he pointed out. Longer for him, of course, but...He shrugged again, and his hand absently went up toward his neck, perhaps in a similar tick to Ichigo's own with the badge, although he didn't notice that. He did notice...or remember, rather...that the coin wasn't there any more, and his dropped his hand back to his side.

"Different world," he said. "Similar, but different. Different rules of the afterlife, I guess. No Hollows, or Shinigami, or Soul Society, but you can still take a portal back to the world...our world...which does."

[identity profile] first-guardian.livejournal.com 2008-07-05 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
He couldn't just turn back when he committed to something.

"You'd think the afterlife is the same everywhere," he followed the movement of Chad's hand and frowned a little, noticing something missing. "Where's your chain?"

Re: General Mingling (Summer 2008 - 2.0)

[identity profile] senor-chado.livejournal.com 2008-07-05 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Chad had hoped Ichigo wouldn't have noticed that, but, well, of course he did. It was Ichigo.

But he wasn't exactly sure how to explain it to Ichigo, because the other boy definitely knew how important that chain had been.

"It's, uh....with someone else now. Someone important," he added after a moment, so Ichigo didn't get the wrong idea. "Lot can happen in two years, Ichigo."

[identity profile] first-guardian.livejournal.com 2008-07-05 11:41 pm (UTC)(link)
He'd watched Chad get beaten up for that coin, there was no way he was going to not notice.

"Yeah, it can." A lot had happened in just a month after all, but if Chad had given it away than that was his business. That really had to be an important person.

"As long as I don't need to go beat someone up," he added with a slight grin. Maybe it wasn't his Chad exactly, but a deal was a deal.

[identity profile] senor-chado.livejournal.com 2008-07-05 11:51 pm (UTC)(link)
That managed to get a bit of a grin out of Chad. "Not on my account, anyway," he said, knowing full well that it would be pretty shocking if Ichigo was able to go without a fight...or at least an argument...with anyone for too long.

Re: General Mingling (Summer 2008 - 2.0)

[identity profile] first-guardian.livejournal.com 2008-07-05 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Ichigo wouldn't really have understood why Chad would think that. Possibly because he hadn't run ito Katchoo yet, but then he wouldn't think so after that either.

"Good, let's keep it that way. So... Anything else I should know?" He knew it was a dangerous question.

Re: General Mingling (Summer 2008 - 2.0)

[identity profile] senor-chado.livejournal.com 2008-07-06 12:04 am (UTC)(link)
Chad grunted a little at that. "How much time you got?" he asked in a wry sort of rumble, and then shook his head, trying to think of what the really, really important stuff might be.

"Gremlins? Bad. Uh, when weird and tiny things start showing up, don't freak out." He imagined Ichigo probably would anyway. "It's actually really normal around here."

Re: General Mingling (Summer 2008 - 2.0)

[identity profile] first-guardian.livejournal.com 2008-07-06 12:07 am (UTC)(link)
That earned him a stare. A long stare. "I was in Virginia and now I'm in Antarctica. How's that normal?"

Re: General Mingling (Summer 2008 - 2.0)

[identity profile] senor-chado.livejournal.com 2008-07-06 12:18 am (UTC)(link)
Chad was okay with that stare. Chad actually kind of missed that stare.

"We were in Madagascar last week," he informed Ichigo. Oh so helpfully.

Re: General Mingling (Summer 2008 - 2.0)

[identity profile] first-guardian.livejournal.com 2008-07-06 12:22 am (UTC)(link)
Chad was lucky then as Ichigo didn't seem to be stopping any time soon. "Which makes this more normal how?"

Re: General Mingling (Summer 2008 - 2.0)

[identity profile] senor-chado.livejournal.com 2008-07-06 12:34 am (UTC)(link)
Chad shrugged again. "The moving's actually not normal," he admitted. "That just started this summer. But it's starting to be normal."

Re: General Mingling (Summer 2008 - 2.0)

[identity profile] first-guardian.livejournal.com 2008-07-06 12:42 am (UTC)(link)
"Will it keep moving?" Ichigo asked. "Madagascar sounds warmer."

Re: General Mingling (Summer 2008 - 2.0)

[identity profile] senor-chado.livejournal.com 2008-07-06 12:54 am (UTC)(link)
"It was warmer," Chad agreed with a nod. "An' I'm sure it will. It's gotta go back to Virginia eventually, right?"

Re: General Mingling (Summer 2008 - 2.0)

[identity profile] first-guardian.livejournal.com 2008-07-06 12:56 am (UTC)(link)
Ichigo's eyebrow went up an inch. "Are you asking me? As far as I'm concerned it shouldn't be moving at all!"

Re: General Mingling (Summer 2008 - 2.0)

[identity profile] senor-chado.livejournal.com 2008-07-06 01:08 am (UTC)(link)
Well, Ichigo always did have more logic than Chad. He shrugged. "I guess. I hope it moves. I hate this cold."

He glanced toward the cat. "Prince Oscar Pedro hates it even more."
