Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

"I'm Teddy," He said, less cheer, but no less determination. "Are you new?"

"Yes," Warren replied, hoping that doing so didn't give the kid the impression that he was prone to bouts of conversation. Words had a funny way of doing that, he'd found. "Just got here."

Stupid words anyhow.

"Have you gotten to meet your big sibling yet?" Teddy asked, soldiering on bravely into an honest to god conversation.

"This place can be... um... kinda weird without any explanation."

"Maybe," Warren said, being as noncommittal as possible ~~because the sib's mun is at work and hasn't logged on yet.~~ "I'm used to weird."

Really. He was. Teddy should have seen Warren's old Mad Science teacher.

There was a pause for consideration while Warren reconsidered this statement.

"What's your definition of weird?" Better safe than sorry, Warren supposed. Even if it meant venturing on into actual talking. Ugh.

Teddy nodded slowly. ~~Because work was evil like that.~~

"Um... aliens destroying the school? The island moving around. We're supposed to be near Virginia..."

Warren quirked an eyebrow and grunted. Again. Clearly he was a master of conversation.

"Not weird yet," he stated. "My last school was on a flying island that constantly moved, and a member of the student body turned all the faculty into babies in an attempt to rule the world."

See, now he was sharing. It was in an attempt to convey how thoroughly unimpressed he was, so it was entirely possible that he wasn't aware that he was now partaking in what most people commonly knew as 'small talk.'

"Huh." Yeah, that was pretty weird. Even for Teddy. "Alternate timelines?"

"What?" Warren's quirked eyebrow was getting a bit of a workout, here. "What about them?"

Maybe one of the kids could puncture the fabric of space and time. Maybe the freaky mad science teacher had come up with a machine that could do it. But Warren himself had never had experience with them, so he had never really bothered to learn about them, himself.

"Where did you go to school?" Teddy finally asked. "It sounds like a SHIELD helicarrier or something."

Or maybe the Initiative.

"A what?" Warren made a face while he tried to puzzle that one out. "I went to school at-"

...

Wait. Not supposed to talk about that.

"A school that happened to fly. Nothing special about it at all."

Really. See, he was totally convincing.

Teddy just gave him a disbelieving look. "Are there super heroes where you're from?"

Warren was going to return the disbelieving look.

"No?"

That right there? Was a no that clearly said, 'Yes, and I'm doing a terrible job covering this fact up.'

And now the fanboy inside Teddy was just bouncing with glee.

He might have done a little on the outside too.

"You don't have to worry about that here. Everyone is really cool about the whole... super powers thing."

"I suppose they would have to be." Warren considered for a moment. His options were to continue sitting at the loner table with company, which really defeated the purpose, or to give in and just be social, damn it. So he lit his hand on fire. "Superpowers aren't really unheard of in my last school."

Possibly because it was a school for children with super powers. That usually had something to do with it.

Which was just so many levels of awesome if you asked Teddy.

"Cool! So you're like Johnny Storm," Teddy said, looking around. "He's from where I'm from, only... not. The one I know is older and blonder. Here, um, less so."

"Never heard of him," Warren said, letting his hand go back to normal and looking around to make sure there wasn't anyone else coming by to start a conversation. "I'm Warren Peace."

There was a moment's pause.

"I take it you meant that alternate timelines are a normal thing around here, when you suggested them?"

[I have to run off to work, now. It's been a pleasure! SP, if you'd like?]

"Teddy Altman." He grinned and nodded. "Here, back home. You get used to them."

[[SP, is love]]

"I'm sure you do," Warren replied with a shrug. "After going to my last school, nothing really seems strange anymore."

This was Fandom. Something would strike Warren as strange sooner or later.

Probably the weetiny things that popped up from time to time.

"And the classes are good about these kinda things too," Teddy added. "There's one on blowing things up this time."

"Blowing things up?" Warren had to think that one over. "This place doesn't seem very different from my old school at all," he decided. "Are there many students here with powers?"

"I can shape-shift! And have super strength." That wasn't meant to come out so... boasty.

He ducked his head faintly. "I know a girl who can use water as a weapon. And there's Johnny who's like you. And there's a few ninjas, I think."

"Being a ninja is a superpower?" This was news to Warren. But upon further consideration, he decided that it had to be at least more super than turning into a guinea pig or a puddle or glowing, anyhow. "I suppose it could be."

"...it seems pretty cool," Teddy said with a shrug.

Warren shrugged, too.

"It probably is. There weren't any ninjas at my last school, though. Guess there's going to be plenty here that I haven't seen before, too."

"Well, they are ninjas." And with that, it was pretty clear how much of a dork Teddy really was.
