Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

"Never heard of him," Warren said, letting his hand go back to normal and looking around to make sure there wasn't anyone else coming by to start a conversation. "I'm Warren Peace."

There was a moment's pause.

"I take it you meant that alternate timelines are a normal thing around here, when you suggested them?"

[I have to run off to work, now. It's been a pleasure! SP, if you'd like?]

"Teddy Altman." He grinned and nodded. "Here, back home. You get used to them."

[[SP, is love]]

"I'm sure you do," Warren replied with a shrug. "After going to my last school, nothing really seems strange anymore."

This was Fandom. Something would strike Warren as strange sooner or later.

Probably the weetiny things that popped up from time to time.

"And the classes are good about these kinda things too," Teddy added. "There's one on blowing things up this time."

"Blowing things up?" Warren had to think that one over. "This place doesn't seem very different from my old school at all," he decided. "Are there many students here with powers?"

"I can shape-shift! And have super strength." That wasn't meant to come out so... boasty.

He ducked his head faintly. "I know a girl who can use water as a weapon. And there's Johnny who's like you. And there's a few ninjas, I think."

"Being a ninja is a superpower?" This was news to Warren. But upon further consideration, he decided that it had to be at least more super than turning into a guinea pig or a puddle or glowing, anyhow. "I suppose it could be."

"...it seems pretty cool," Teddy said with a shrug.

Warren shrugged, too.

"It probably is. There weren't any ninjas at my last school, though. Guess there's going to be plenty here that I haven't seen before, too."

"Well, they are ninjas." And with that, it was pretty clear how much of a dork Teddy really was.

Warren was going to have to stare for a moment, there.

Yeah. Yeah, Teddy was a pretty huge dork.

"Any classes that are worth taking besides the one on blowing up things?"

Warren really didn't need to take a course in order to be able to smite things in a ball of flaming death, after all.

"I'm taking one on traveling the galaxy," Teddy replied, trying to remember any others that looked interesting.

"There's one on fashion, you'll probably want to avoid. The teacher is, well... insane."

"Aren't most teachers?"

Warren's experience with the faculty at his last school had given him some pretty solid notions that adults in general were... kind of nuts.

Really, he wasn't far from the truth.

"Insane in the tried to attack me and my friends back home kind of way," Teddy replied, making a face. "And calling me nubile on the radio."

Gross. Just so many levels of gross.

"The best I have is the gym teacher who drops cars on students to see if they've got super strength," Warren mused.

"That sounds... dangerous." And psychotic.

"It's effective," Warren pointed out. "And stupid. And... pretty much the status quo for my last school."

"I don't think you have to worry about that here," Teddy replied slowly. "They're pretty laid back about that part of stuff."

"Keep talking about this place like that, and it's going to start to seem normal," Warren mused. "I'm going to have to see this for myself."

Maybe he'd take that fashion course anyhow. Just to see what this kid's notion of insane was really like.

Besides, superhero fashion was a mandatory course he was going to have to take before graduating Sky High as a hero. Maybe he could convince the teachers there that this was an equivalent.

"And then the furniture comes to life or something and you remember how weird it is," Teddy replied with a grin. "But it's fun to fit in a little. I don't know about where you're from, but having powers isn't the best thing back home for me."

"The furniture is alive?"

That was a new one.

"Where I'm from, it depends... what side you're on, I guess. Good guys. Bad guys. It's all in how you wear the tights."

"Sometimes." Because the furniture part was important. And distracting. "People with weird powers scares people. Most don't want to be heroes or villains or whatever. Just wanna, you know... live normal lives."

"I don't think different people often get the privilege." But it would be nice, wouldn't it? "I had a normal job, back home. Might look for one here, too. To keep busy with. Having a place where everyone is different helps. With the feeling normal."

Sometimes. Unless they figured you were weird anyhow.

Warren had his doubts that too many people were going to have that issue with him. Damn them all.

"There are probably lots of places hiring here with people leaving over the summer," Teddy replied. "I work at the art gallery. You should stop by and talk to Miss York. She's really nice about the whole... weird stuff. Didn't get mad when I asked for time off to visit my sister last term."

"At the art gallery? I might have to look into that. I've been waiting tables for a while. A change of pace might be... good."

Plus, 'Miss York' didn't sound like the sort of person who would yell at him angrily in Chinese for actually being social with the customers.

Not that he was ever prone to fits of being social, dammit anyhow.
