Dean nodded. "My brother and I go to school here. My dad's a teacher and our stepmom -- Gracie's mom -- is the principal. They're still on their honeymoon. And yeah, weird is probably the best word to describe this place. But it's a cool weird."

He had to remind himself of why he'd agreed to come here for an instant as he found himself wishing his family - maybe minus his father - would be here. "So far it's more been headache weird," he admitted, but after talking to Chad he was less likely to dismiss it instantly.

"I guess you'd be biased then if I were to ask you what the teachers are like?"

"They run the gamut, actually," Dean said. "Some are pretty awesome -- and yeah I'd count my Dad there -- but there's some who are full out loony tunes and occasionally you get someone really evil who ends up getting kicked in the crotch by your girlfriend as he's sent back to hell."

As far as Ichigo was concerned, it'd be almost normal to go 'loony tunes' here. The girlfriend and crotch remarked may have gotten Dean a reply, but it was lost by what came next. "Back to hell?"

Dean nodded. "Hades. He sorta rules it. Least the Greek mythology portion."

"Hades? The Greek god?" Ichigo was almost missing Rukia's freaky bunny explanation drawings. "He was a teacher here?"

"Vice principal actually."

"And no one thought that might be asking for trouble?"

No, he wasn't quite sure why he felt that needed to be his next question.

Dean spread his hands. "The ways of the school board are mysterious and not for us lesser mortals to know. Also they kinda suck at screening potential employees."

"I'd say," Ichigo scratched the back of his head. "So it happens a lot?"

"I wouldn't say a lot but.. it's not the first time we had to take down a school administrator the hard way," Dean said. "But don't worry. Zoe -- Principal Washburn -- is just all around awesome."

That was interesting and Ichigo definitely made a mental note of it. "That's good, I'm in favour of non-evil principals." Then again, who wasn't? "Or just non-evil in general. Anything else I should watch out for?"

Might as well get the brain breaking over with in one day.

"Gremlins," Dean said.

"Ino mentioned those." She'd mentioned a lot. "I was kind of hoping she was just confusing movies with reality."

Dean shook his head. "Nope. Reality tends to be more surreal than movies 'round here anyway."

"I think I might be starting to get that," he glanced down at the plate he was still holding. "At least there's free food? That counts for something."

"Definitely," Dean said. "And one of the coolest things about this place being so weird? It makes whatever weirdness we bring with us here seem like no big deal."

Ichigo glanced at Dean and somehow, he highly doubted it. Ask him again after his first Fandom encounters. "Okay, I'll bite. Ino says she's a ninja from a different world and one of her friends is an alien. What kind of weirdness do you have?"

"The family business is ghost hunting, demon hunting, y'know all those things that go bump in the night," Dean said. "And yes, they all really exist."

No, he couldn't quite hide his surprise as he knew very well that ghosts exists. Maybe not the ghosts Dean had in mind, but to Ichigo there was only one kind of ghost. "You're Quincy?"

Dean blinked. "No... Dean."

"No, Quincy they-" he stopped, mouth snapping shut and if Dean hadn't heard of the Quincy before...

"It's nothing," he said quickly, hoping Dean would confuse his sudden nervousness for embarrassment. "They're just silly stories you tell kids." They really weren't, but with a bit of luck Dean knew very little about Japanese folk tales.

"Oh you mean it's like a job title?" Dean said, perking up. "Where I'm from, we're just called hunters."

"Well, I think it would be more than just a job to them." A beat. He needed to be a bit more careful here. "If they were real. So how do you hunt them?"

He vaguely wondered if Dean was like a Quincy and if he'd managed to pick up on Ichigo's spiritual pressure.

"Pretty much with whatever works," Dean explained. "We use a lot of salt and holy water, some silver rounds, consecrated iron, throw in some fire and a few exorcisms..."
