That was interesting and Ichigo definitely made a mental note of it. "That's good, I'm in favour of non-evil principals." Then again, who wasn't? "Or just non-evil in general. Anything else I should watch out for?"

Might as well get the brain breaking over with in one day.

"Gremlins," Dean said.

"Ino mentioned those." She'd mentioned a lot. "I was kind of hoping she was just confusing movies with reality."

Dean shook his head. "Nope. Reality tends to be more surreal than movies 'round here anyway."

"I think I might be starting to get that," he glanced down at the plate he was still holding. "At least there's free food? That counts for something."

"Definitely," Dean said. "And one of the coolest things about this place being so weird? It makes whatever weirdness we bring with us here seem like no big deal."

Ichigo glanced at Dean and somehow, he highly doubted it. Ask him again after his first Fandom encounters. "Okay, I'll bite. Ino says she's a ninja from a different world and one of her friends is an alien. What kind of weirdness do you have?"

"The family business is ghost hunting, demon hunting, y'know all those things that go bump in the night," Dean said. "And yes, they all really exist."

[identity profile] first-guardian.livejournal.com 2008-07-05 06:53 pm (UTC)(link)
No, he couldn't quite hide his surprise as he knew very well that ghosts exists. Maybe not the ghosts Dean had in mind, but to Ichigo there was only one kind of ghost. "You're Quincy?"

[identity profile] saltandammo.livejournal.com 2008-07-05 06:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Dean blinked. "No... Dean."

"No, Quincy they-" he stopped, mouth snapping shut and if Dean hadn't heard of the Quincy before...

"It's nothing," he said quickly, hoping Dean would confuse his sudden nervousness for embarrassment. "They're just silly stories you tell kids." They really weren't, but with a bit of luck Dean knew very little about Japanese folk tales.

"Oh you mean it's like a job title?" Dean said, perking up. "Where I'm from, we're just called hunters."

Re: General Mingling (Summer 2008 - 2.0)

[identity profile] first-guardian.livejournal.com 2008-07-05 07:13 pm (UTC)(link)
"Well, I think it would be more than just a job to them." A beat. He needed to be a bit more careful here. "If they were real. So how do you hunt them?"

He vaguely wondered if Dean was like a Quincy and if he'd managed to pick up on Ichigo's spiritual pressure.

"Pretty much with whatever works," Dean explained. "We use a lot of salt and holy water, some silver rounds, consecrated iron, throw in some fire and a few exorcisms..."

It was rude to laugh. It was really rude to laugh. He knew he shouldn't.

A snort. Come on, no way was the kid being serious. "That's funny."

"What's funny?"

[identity profile] first-guardian.livejournal.com 2008-07-05 07:36 pm (UTC)(link)
"They're ghosts, why would salt and water work on them? It's not like they have a body." He was still very, very amused. It wasn't anything personal, it was just a ghost-culture-clash.

Re: General Mingling (Summer 2008 - 2.0)

[identity profile] saltandammo.livejournal.com 2008-07-05 07:45 pm (UTC)(link)
"Water doesn't work on ghosts," Dean explained. "That's for demons. But salt and iron can hurt a ghost or keep it out of somewhere. But it generally doesn't get rid of them. Usually you have to find the body and salt and burn the bones. Or, if it's an object they're attached to, salt and burn that."

Re: General Mingling (Summer 2008 - 2.0)

[identity profile] first-guardian.livejournal.com 2008-07-05 07:53 pm (UTC)(link)
"I don't know about demons," he admitted, the occasional snicker escaping because... Come on! And it sounded like a very bad idea to detach a spirit from anything he was bound to, unless you felt like turning him into a hollow faster. "Sorry. That's just the first time I heard anyone say that."

Re: General Mingling (Summer 2008 - 2.0)

[identity profile] saltandammo.livejournal.com 2008-07-05 07:59 pm (UTC)(link)
"No worries," Dean said. "A lot of people have problems believing ghosts are real."

Re: General Mingling (Summer 2008 - 2.0)

[identity profile] first-guardian.livejournal.com 2008-07-05 08:02 pm (UTC)(link)
"I have trouble believing a lot of things today," Ichigo said easily, glad to take an out. "So demons too?"

Re: General Mingling (Summer 2008 - 2.0)

[identity profile] saltandammo.livejournal.com 2008-07-05 08:09 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yeah." Dean sobered. "They're generally meaner and harder to take out than your average ghost."

Re: General Mingling (Summer 2008 - 2.0)

[identity profile] first-guardian.livejournal.com 2008-07-05 08:11 pm (UTC)(link)
And now he was wondering... "What are they like?"

Re: General Mingling (Summer 2008 - 2.0)

[identity profile] saltandammo.livejournal.com 2008-07-05 09:55 pm (UTC)(link)
"Demons?" Dean asked. "Well, they're non corporeal in their natural form -- kinda like an evil black smoke. And they possess people. Which kinda goes along with the whole like to torture people for kicks thing they've got going."

Re: General Mingling (Summer 2008 - 2.0)

[identity profile] first-guardian.livejournal.com 2008-07-05 10:10 pm (UTC)(link)
That didn't sound like anything Ichigo had run into before and maybe he should ask Rukia or whatever shinigami he met next. "Sound like fun," he said wryly. Possessing someone would make it harder to get the out of someone.
