"Have you ever asked him?" she wondered. And then wondered if it was possible that the boy she was talking to was the insane one, and really, how could she tell? Insanity was so many different things...

"Ask him if he's insane?" Hannibal asked. "That's kind of not something we talk about. I really can't go out for a game of toss the football around and then broach the subject of insanity. That's more of a dinner time subject."

"Well, I don't know," she said, flustered. "I don't know how that would work exactly. I don't remember having parents at all."

She blinked at him. "That wouldn't be really forgetting now, would it? But it happens... so what's the point in trying to remember when it'll only make for a headache?"

"I just didn't think memories worked like that," he said, frowning. "Even if I want to forget, I can't make myself."

"It's..." Viki tried to think of how to explain it. "...how old are you?"

No, he just...looked like a seventeen year old boy.

"I don't know how old I am," she said, sounding unconcerned. "My looks never change, but I've been through five different wars..."

Of course, added into that, was a lot of time and space teleportation. There were reasons Viki was so confused.
