Glad for the distraction the picnic offered, John grabbed a plate of food and set to the task of standing and eating at the same time. There was some coordination involved to make the task appear easy.

Ronon's gaze narrowed when he spotted a particularly familiar head of hair in the crowd.

Almost pleased by the prospect of a replicator to fight, Ronon's lip curved into a sneer as he discarded his food and moved toward the impostor. Who needed an ARG?

John was rather focused on his own food consumption and didn't realize there was a giant moving toward him.

He probably should work on being more observant at these things.

Ronon came to a stop in front of Sheppard and crossed his arms. "You been here long?"

He wasn't fond of beating around the bush, no.

"Little over a year," John looked up at the rather imposing man with a tight-lipped smile. "I take it you're new?" And have limited social skills.

"Yup," Ronon clipped. "Thought we got rid of the replicators on this planet, too, but here you are."

"Uh, replicator?" John was confused as ever. "I'm John Sheppard, and you are..?"

Surmising that this guy was definitely capable of tearing him up, John thought if he spoke slowly and used fewer words he'd have a better chance of getting away in one piece.

Knocking John's plate away, Ronon reached out to grab John's collar, intent on hauling him up against a convenient tree.

"I'm the guy you're going to tell what you are or I swear they won't recognize your remains when I'm through," he snarled.

Struggling ineffectually against Ronon's strength, John cried out in surprise and pain at the tightness against his neck. "Woah! Take it easy! I don't have any clue what you're talking about!" His exclamation was quieter than intended.

"You're a little young to be John Sheppard," Ronon growled, hand fisted tightly in the front of John's shirt.

Romeo waved lightly at John. "So did you get another little sibling this time?" he asked. "I'm sitting it out."

"Nah, I'm pretty busy this session," John admitted. There was that hope of not being around much, at least. "It'll be a first."

"First busy session, or first time without a sibling?" he asked. "I don't have any particular plans, I just forgot to register."

"Both actually," John said. "It's kind of weird."

"Change sometimes is," Romeo had to agree. "Are you working on anything interesting, or just the usual classes and all of that? And I would offer to come bother you as a sibling, but I seem to be managing all right."

"I'm planning some trips off-world with Jaina," he explained. "I've lucked out with very competent siblings."

Romeo was ... okay, a little proud at being considered competent. "I got one who had lived here as a child, so very competent," he explained. "And you are lucky, to get to travel with Jaina -- I hope you have pleasant trips. I went to Tokyo with Dojima a few weeks ago, and missed Hades and the monsters."

Which was a mixed blessing, in Romeo's head.

"The food here is way too good," Rikku announced, popping some chips into her mouth. "They should have picnics more often. Like, weekly."

"But what would that be like without the new people to stare at and confuse about how things are done here?" John asked, shoveling potato salad into his mouth.

"We'd still have the food," she pointed out. "And the newbie panic takes a few weeks to wear off. Or we could find new and interesting ways to freak them out."

"I keep expecting to find you all garbed up to convince them of something insane," John told her. "Dawn wasn't even making them pay for knowledge today. Kinda sad."

"Next time," she said, nodding seriously. "Or maybe we set up a booth, tomorrow. FREE INFORMATION, ONLY FIVE CENTS. It'd confuse them even more than the shiny turban and caftan combination."

John laughed. "That would be kind of awesome."

"Wouldn't it?" she bounced. "Are you busy, tomorrow? I don't think I am. I'm sure I could find a turban."

"I'm free. Other than a small thing in the morning." John could get with a turban.
