Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

Despite the fact that they were still in Antarctica, the weather for the picnic was beautiful. It was sunny, warm, and clear enough to see many of the icebergs circling the island from the school's location. If people were still cold, there was more warm food than usual out on the tables, and hot drinks were being kept well-stocked.

Along with the tables and chairs near the food, there was a table of nametags, and two signs: one listing the Big Sibling/Little Sibling pairings, and one listing rooms and roommates for the new students.

It was time for the picnic to begin!

[OCD is up! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here and here, in an effort to keep browsers from breaking for as long as possible.]

Cimorene was at the picnic, holding up a sheet of paper that she had written EDMUND on in rather large letters.

'Big sibling'. Ender wondered if they understood the irony of it. It was a decent means for familiarity, like Dap had been back when he'd been young and frightened; except the word 'sibling' meant something else than 'mother', and he found himself thinking heavily of Valentine as he waited, quietly, with the tag that dubbed him 'Andrew Wiggin'.

He was using the time he had to watch, familiarizing himself with the patterns of greeting the others used as they moved around. The sunlight was harsh to his eyes-- Ender had to blink often.

Hinata was... not entirely sure how her name had been signed up for a sibling, but she assumed it had something to do with her father making the decision.

Nonetheless, she showed up early and started looking around for someone names Bender.

Juli had to admit she was unsure about being a... teaching buddy, as it were. Ah well. Nothing she could do to change it. The school seemed quite intent this semester to mess up her pattern as it was, so...

She'd just have to adapt.

Juli glanced around curiously.

Big sibling? Ichigo was used to being the big sibling himself and while he didn't think he needed one himself, he supposed it was a nice enough idea.

The nametag - ICHIGO KUROSAKI (he needed to remember his first name went first here) - was stuck to crookedly to his shirt and he glanced around the picnic area. For once, his orange hair wouldn't stand out so much and he wasn't sure if that was comforting or not.

Okay, now he just needed to find this Jack Burton guy.

Ichigo glanced down at the subsitute shinigami badge dangling from the keychain attached to his trousers. So far it had been quiet and it was a small island so the chances of running into a hollow seemed slim. He hoped. Sharing a room with someone who didn't know what he was, wasn't going to be easy.

So how did someone named Andrew Wiggin look? Wiggin sounded funny.

Aly couldn't have been dragged away from the picnic with a set of wild horses, and she lounged against a tree, watching the picnic interestedly.

Did Murdock go anywhere without coffee? Probably not. Armed with said beverage, Murdock wandered around the picnic, checking out familiar faces and new ones.

Liz had found out that she would have a little sibling this session and so she came down to the welcome picnic to find her. She made sure that her name tag was visible and looked around for someone named Helen.

He recognised the name on the tag. It was a Japanese name; the name of his roommate. Ender's memories of long narrow barracks full of boys were still fresh, but so were his memories of Mazer.

Assigned siblings. Assigned roommates. The patterns of his life had not yet abandoned him.

"Ichigo Kurosaki?" he asked, approaching the boy. Wiry and red-haired; it made him wonder. So this was what they were giving him, now. "I'm Ender Wiggin."

Chuck was not all about this big sibling thing. If this Chris guy thought there was going to be bonding between them then he was sadly mistaken.

Still, Chuck supposed that this was a chance to get a new minion...er...friend.

Chuck was very pleased to see that he was living on Blair's floor and even more pleased to find that his roommate was a girl. Or had a girl's name. He was pleased either way.

Ichigo took in the boy for an instant, measuring him up and deciding that he didn't look annoying like Uryuu or Renji.

"I guess that makes you my roommate, then," he said with an almost smile. "Ender? I thought the paper said Andrew?"

The Doctor couldn't very well pass up the opportunity to meet new people. He was out and about and trying the food. Food was great. He loved food. There was also the fact that they were in Antarctica and he had no idea how. Food and surprises. He loved those.

Although he was keeping an eye out for Susan and feeling slightly overwhelmed at the prospect of living here for a period of time, Edmund did his best to get the information he needed and then mingle. He really wasn't that fond of mingling, especially when he felt quite out of place in his Narnian garb, casual though it was. Oh well, he thought, onward.

About that time he noticed the sign with his name on it. He approached and bowed courteously. "I'm Edmund." He'd practised not saying his whole title. "Lady Cimorene?" he asked. "I beg you forgive any pronunciation errors."

Marshall was not going to miss a picnic. Picnic food was awesome.

He was in the middle of eating his third hot dog when he spotted some movement near the potato salad. Marshall jumped and almost dropped his hot dog when he saw what he thought he saw. He bravely moved for a closer inspection only to find that the area around the potato salad was empty.

That couldn't have been...could it?

"Andrew is what my mother calls me." Or rather, it had been what his mother had called him. He didn't remember much of her-- and she had done her best to forget him, so far away from home.

So far, Ichigo had made no move to push, or question him: Ichigo hadn't recognised his name. Ender was glad for small favours, but it increased his wonder.

"So Ender's a nickname then?" Ichigo asked, not quite understanding what was bad about your mother calling you something. It wasn't his place to ask however so he let it pass. "Any particular reason for it?"

"Aw, such a cute little program," Hannibal said as he slapped a nametag on his chest. "I hope my big sibling tells me stories!"

With that, Hannibal started looking around for someone named Alec.

His roommate was a girl.

Let's pause and back that up.

His roommate was. A. Girl.

Hannibal kinda already loved this place.

He'd always been Ender. Andrew was someone else's name, and it belonged to no one he'd ever met. "It's my name," he replied, "I've had it for longer than I can remember." Had he ever had a reason for it? "You're from Japan?"
