Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

Despite the fact that they were still in Antarctica, the weather for the picnic was beautiful. It was sunny, warm, and clear enough to see many of the icebergs circling the island from the school's location. If people were still cold, there was more warm food than usual out on the tables, and hot drinks were being kept well-stocked.

Along with the tables and chairs near the food, there was a table of nametags, and two signs: one listing the Big Sibling/Little Sibling pairings, and one listing rooms and roommates for the new students.

It was time for the picnic to begin!

[OCD is up! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here and here, in an effort to keep browsers from breaking for as long as possible.]

Of course Fraser was out and about in full uniform. He hadn't missed one of these since his arrival. No reason to start now.

"Constable Fraser, I presume?"

The uniform was a dead giveaway for her, as was the bearing...at least when it came to him being a constable. The name 'Fraser' had been provided by Dean Jones earlier, as had the information that such a man was the head of campus security. It was for this reason that she had made her way to him.

"You presume correctly," Fraser said, turning and giving a small bow to the other woman. "Are you a new member of the faculty?"

"I seem to be," and while she was more than frustrated with Richard over the whole thing, she supposed that it could be much worse. And so, her tone was pleasant.

"Detective Crown Investigator Abigail Irene Garrett," she introduced herself with a brief bow in return, short not out of disrespect but a tendency to flit through niceties as quickly as possible, "though as I am considerably out of my jurisdiction, Abigail Irene will do quite nicely."

"A pleasure," Fraser said, smiling. "Detective Crown Investigator? I don't believe I've heard such a title before."

"A representative of the Crown in the area of forensic sorcery, responsible for assisting the local authorities as best I can" despite differences in politics "in the case of unsolved homicides and supernatural threats to the citizens of New Amsterdam," she provided with a brief smile.

"An interesting line of work," Fraser said, used to this particular thing now. "What brings you down here? We haven't really, thankfully, had a pressing need for forensics."

"I'm not surprised you'd never heard of such, I admit. There are only three of us in the New World and of those three, I have the dubious honor of being the only one on active duty."

Mike, her patchwork terrier, trotted over then. He was done with his water, the bowl in his mouth as he settled on the ground next to her.

"The Duke of New Amsterdam has requested that I take something of a sabbatical from my position to teach here," she said with a smile that managed not to be bitter only by a sheer act of will.

"As I am a loyal citizen and servant of the Crown, I made my way here as soon as possible."

She looked him over thoughtfully, considering for a moment before continuing.

"Might I ask what brought you? I am quite pleased to find the security of the campus in the hands of a trained officer such as yourself, but it is somewhat surprising."

"I was previously employed as liaison at the Canadian consulate in Chicago," Fraser explained. "After several years there, I decided a change was in order. An opportunity was presented to me and I decided to take it. Nothing too interesting, unfortunately."

"Chicago?"

Her eyes widened. That was barely an outpost. A very rough sort of place for a gentleman to be stationed.

"Well, then, I suppose I will feel very secure. No incompetent would fare well in Chicago."

"That's quite kind of you to say, Detective Crown Investigator," he said, smiling. "Before Chicago, I was stationed in Canada, as the uniform would suggest. I first came to Chicago on the trail of my father's killers, and for various reasons remained there a liaison to the Canadian consulate."

A Canadian consulate in Chicago? Had she really had her head so far into her work that she'd missed that piece of information?

"DCI Garrett or Doctor Garrett is just fine, Constable, though I appreciate your use of my title.

"And may I express my sympathies for your loss. As well as my admiration for your tenacity and dedication to justice. While I won't say such dedication is rare in this day and age, it is heartening to hear."

She liked other people who took their job seriously.

"Of course, Doctor," he said, nodding. "And thank you. Justice was, eventually, served for both my father and those who caused his death. That's all I wanted."

Full uniform meant hat.

Hat meant Deadpool.

Deadpool meant... Something something.

"Benny!"

"Wade Wilson," Fraser said, turning towards Wade. "I'm glad to see you here."

Which was just crazy talk. "But how will you know the wonder of HGTV?"

"Home and Gardens Television." He... might have been watching a lot this past week.

It was soothing.

"...how masculine," Fraser said, teasing.
