How to Blend in and Courtly Dancing and Defence: Periods 3 & 4, Week 7

A note had been sent around to all the students in both How to Blend In and Courtly Dancing and Defence telling them to meet at the Danger Shop for both the 3rd and 4th periods.  

The Danger Shop was set up with racks of costumes again - formal clothes with many, many masks of all different sorts to choose from.

Aly was smiling as she glanced around at the students though her eyes were sharp to pick out injuries or worries from the weekend.  "It's good to see all of you in one piece more or less after the past weekend.  Sadly for you, because we won, you all still have class today," she teased.  "Next time, keep that in mind."

"As I'm sure you've all noticed, we're going to have both classes together today.  For a masquerade ball.  Students learning how to blend in?  I think the mission here is obvious.  Watch the Danger Shop generated attendees and the Courtly Dancing class and remember the rules of disguise and taking on a character.  Courtly Dancing?  Your 'special accessories' are on that table" Aly pointed to a table full of weapons.  "Everything else you've learned - flirting and dancing will come in handy.  Those of you who were in both classes?  You have a head start."

"All of you can mingle, dance, learn what you can from each other or the other attendees and generally have fun.  And before you get dressed, let me just say I've enjoyed having all of you in class these workshops.  If you ever want to stop by, feel free, and I hope to see all you in another class of mine sometime soon."

Dōjima listened carefully, already scoping out the costumes and the table that belonged to the other class. If she was supposed to blend, she really should make sure to be properly accessorized.

Oh, this was too perfect as a last class; if he'd had it a year ago, Romeo could have avoided quite a lot of things,he thought ruefully.

He dressed in a tuxedo with a colorful red-patterned vest and tie, then donned a simple red mask.

She was tempted to try and pass herself off as a servant, but Dōjima couldn't resist the pretty.

Chad was, as a rule, not a big fan of masks, so he chose a small, simple black one that covered mostly just his eyes or, to put it another way, covered little more than what his hair already did. As far as a nice tuxedo went, he went with something basic, with a nice, dark red vest, thinking that he had dressed in a tux more in this summer alone than he had his entire life so far.

Cimorene decided to go for a red velvet gown with a matching mask. She also undid her usual braids to let most of her hair fall down her back. She did remake one thin brain in the center of the back of her head.

John was glad to find a mask that covered a lot of his head as well as his eyes. He was thankful for the blending in portion of this class.

Maybe not the dancing though.

This was a final exam that Inara could definitely get used to. After a great deal of internal debate over appropriateness, mobility, and how memorable she wanted to be, she selected an outfit (http://www.bargello.com/Viola+Sharara-249-Special+Occasions-107-2268.htm) that would make sure she garnered enough attention so she wouldn't stand out, but wasn't so exotic as to make people remember it, or her.

While she would have preferred sleeves, she was able to tie throwing knives and sheathes to her legs, use stiletto hairsticks to arrange her hair, and added a pendant necklace with an internal compartment for poison.

Finally, she selected a small black mask and was satisfied as she settled it into place.

Harry wasn't a big fan of formal wear, and he hadn't been forced into any nice clothes while living with Ebenezar. So he felt, and probably looked, a bit goofy in his tux.

Luckily there were masks to help with this sort of thing. He went with something silver that didn't obscure his vision. He hated not being able to see.

Real food, not Danger Shop food. Because what would a party be without the buffet table? Help yourself to cupcakes, petit fours, and other sweets as well as unspiked punch, coffee or tea.

Perhaps Chad was missing the point a little, but Chad had absolutely no problems with spending more time next to the food table than on the dance floor. Ahem.
