Library [05/26]

Last week had felt really weird to Sam when he'd skipped out on his library shift, so this week he was there bright and early. If nothing else, being in the library would give him time to find places he and Dawn could check out in France.

"I don't know, it depends on the week. Usually it's when we hang out, or when I'm doing something with Dawn or Peter."

"You could be doing that instead of hanging out here then," Dean said. "I mean, if you want to set up a regular time for us to do something...."

"What do you call this?" Sam said, laughing. "You come here every week to have lunch with me, and so do Peter and Dawn. Part of the reason I come here is because I know I won't spend the whole day alone, and you'll all know exactly where to come to see me."

"Yeah, but we could be having lunch somewhere fun."

"I don't have to stay here for lunch. I could meet you somewhere else if you want," Sam pointed out.

"Or we could add in, like a weekly daytrip or something," Dean suggested. "Especially with the island going walkabout."

"We could do that, if you really want to spend time with me like that," Sam said.

"Why wouldn't I?"

"Because we already see each other a lot?"

Dean shook his head slowly. "And seeing each other more is a problem because....?"

"Because you have other people to hang out with besides me?" Sam said, shrugging.

"Yeah, but you're my brother," Dean said as if that explained everything that was self evident and Sammy was an idiot for not seeing it.

"I know," Sam said, looking a little smug. "I just don't want to monopolize all your time. Especially when you have two other people to keep happy," he teased.

"That's a completely different thing," Dean said.

"Not really. They need you just as much as I do," Sam said.

Dean raised an eyebrow. "You don't want to hang out with me more because you think I should be spending more time hanging out with Alec? Am I hearing that right?"

"I think you need to make sure you spend time with Meg," Sam insisted, "because she's the one who's leaving at the end of the summer. I suppose you have time to make up for with Alec too, although you'll have to excuse me if I don't really want to think about that."

"Well spending time with Meg goes without saying," Dean said. "Who wouldn't want to spend time with her?"

"People who are crazy and don't know how great she is," Sam said, smiling softly.

"All the more time for me then. But that's beside the point. The point is she's great, Alec's great -- no matter how much you want to argue that point -- but they're not my brother. So yeah, they don't take a higher demand on my time than you do."
