Library [05/26]

Last week had felt really weird to Sam when he'd skipped out on his library shift, so this week he was there bright and early. If nothing else, being in the library would give him time to find places he and Dawn could check out in France.

"No. It was during the whole angel statue thing. I skipped class when Dean and my dad and I went hunting for them." Which had been stupid and nearly gotten them killed, but that was not the point now.

Peter waved that off. "Doesn't count."

"I skip class when I'm sick," Sam replied. "Unless it's a really important class and I can't miss it."

"You realize that doesn't count either, right?" Peter said.

"Why not?" Sam asked. "I'm missing class then, right?"

"Not for fun," Peter said. "Not because you felt like going to the beach that day, or whatever. It doesn't count."

"But I have plenty of time to go to the beach when I'm not in class," Sam admitted. "Skipping to go do stuff I could do after class just never makes sense to me."

"I like you even if you are a giant dork," Peter said.

Sam smiled and looked a little bashful. "My responsibilities are important to me, that's all," he said, peering at the donuts.

Peter moved the box of donuts closer to help Sam look. "It's okay. It's one of the things I like about you."

"I like that you put up with me," Sam said, motioning to the food. "Even when I'm at my craziest."

"I have to," Peter teased. "If I didn't put up with you at your craziest I'd never put up with you at all."

"You could just not put up with me at all," Sam said, taking a donut. "That's always an option if I get too crazy."

"Then I'd have to go find a new best friend," Peter said. "I don't think anyone would be able to live up to the original."

Sam grinned. "I am a hard act to follow, I'll give you that," he said. "I could try not being crazy, but I don't know how well that will work."

"It doesn't seem to have kicked in so far," Peter said.

"I haven't been trying. Things keep getting in my way," Sam explained.

"Couldn't tell the difference," Peter deadpanned.

Sam leaned over and tried to swat at Peter. "If I'm too crazy, good luck finding a new best friend who's not freaked out by all your abilities," he teased.

"Ow!" Peter protested. He rubbed his arm, then went to swat Sam in return. "That's it. I'm holding auditions right now. See if I can find somebody who doesn't give me so much lip."

"You wouldn't know what to do if I didn't give you lip," Sam said, laughing and rubbing his arm. "You need an annoying little brother as your best friend."

"Lucky for me I found a little brother annoying enough to fit the bill," Peter replied with a grin.

"This might be the only time hearing that feels like a compliment," Sam said.

"I've got a talent for that kind of thing," Peter replied.

"One of your many talents?" Sam teased.
