Luau: The Main Campfire: Friday Evening

The irony of having a Hawaiian luau while in Greece probably hadn't escaped anyone.  But given that the majority of the students probably couldn't pinpoint Hawaii on the map, it didn't seem like that was enough of a reason to cancel what had become a summer tradition.

So in the early evening, the main campfire was transformed into a party place with coconuts, grass skirts, and leis for everyone.  A pig was slowly roasting over the fire, and a huge moddable buffet spread out to the flagpole.

A dance floor was set up, and Hawaiian music was playing, but there was also plenty of grass spread with blankets for the less-rhythm-inclined.

[OOC:  YAAAAAY LUAU!  Students, teachers, and townies all welcome!]

"Because the necklace made out of flowers is much more manly," Wes says straight-faced.

"Well, if we want to be accurate, go with one of those kukui nut leis (http://www.lotsofaloha.com/kukuinutleis.html)," said Mike. "Traditionally, they're worn by both men and women in Hawaii. Actually, in ancient Hawaii, only the men performed the hula..."

And Mike was off and running with his history lesson.

"Right..." and Wes just listens to the entire thing with bemusement.

"...and that's when the missionaries arrived," said Mike, reaching the end of part one. "Are you with me so far?"

"Missionaries, yeah," Wes nods.

He was going to need more marshmallows.

"So, then the missionaries... well, maybe that's not very important," said Mike. "It's Friday. I'm sure you don't want to get a history lesson from a teacher when there aren't any classes on Fridays."
