Luau: The Main Campfire: Friday Evening

The irony of having a Hawaiian luau while in Greece probably hadn't escaped anyone. But given that the majority of the students probably couldn't pinpoint Hawaii on the map, it didn't seem like that was enough of a reason to cancel what had become a summer tradition.

So in the early evening, the main campfire was transformed into a party place with coconuts, grass skirts, and leis for everyone. A pig was slowly roasting over the fire, and a huge ~~moddable~~ buffet spread out to the flagpole.

A dance floor was set up, and Hawaiian music was playing, but there was also plenty of grass spread with blankets for the less-rhythm-inclined.

Ron nodded emphatically. "Smart move. When she was over at Hogwarts she had it out for all of us there too. That's when my brothers came up with the swamp thing."

Mac gave a little laugh. That made a lot of sense.

"She really gets around with the school take-overs, huh?"

"No kidding," Ron said shaking his head. "But she didn't stick around at either place so that's good, right?"

"She's not so scary as she seems... Or maybe she is, but we're scarier."

Mac shrugged. "Either way, all with the good."

"So... I have to ask," Ron said. "Are you getting tired of this place?"

"I wouldn't say that--" Mac said thoughtfully. "I like it, mostly. I've just been in high school way too long."

"Weird timeline discrepancies," she added in explanation. "I've sorta done it twice over."

"Twice?" Ron asked looking a little shocked. "Blimey. That would suck."

Mac nodded. "Yeah, kinda does... But fortunately, this is the sort of place that never gets boring."

"Tell me about it," Ron said with an amused eyeroll. "The humiliation alone keeps me hopping."

Mac smirked. "Who needs random wackiness when you've got that?"

"I think I'd prefer more of the random wackiness," Ron said with a rueful grin.

She showed him her crossed fingers.

"...So long as its the innocent weetiny bunny kind of wacky, not the attacking stationary kind," she added, swaying a little to the music."

"Or diseases or people being sent through time," Ron said trying to keep up with Mac in the swaying department.

Mac pulled a face. "Yeah, they come under the heading 'major bad' rather than wackiness, though. I think those can be taken out of the deal."

"So..." Ron said, "What's been the best time you've had since you've been here?"

Mac was thoughtful for a moment.

"Y'know, I'm not sure," she said. "There've been a lot of good times over the last few years. Probably something dumb like throwing twinkies off the roof... maybe getting to be a kid again for a little while."

"Twinkies off the roof?" Ron said with a raised eyebrow.

"All in the name of science," she said.

"And what science did it prove?" Ron asked. "That they go splat?"

Mac grinned. "It tells you exactly how they go splat."

And what they look like when they hit your roommate.

"Somehow I think you and my brothers would hit if off," Ron smirked. "And for some reason that scare me a little."

"If it helps, at least I can't magic up swaps," Mac said with a chuckle.

"No but I have a feeling you'd get them to do it in no time flat," Ron said shaking his head in amusement.

"How soon do you have to leave for that party?" Ron asked tilting his head slightly.

Mac glanced at her watch. She'd kind of forgotten about that.

"It's probably about time," she admitted. "Wouldn't want to miss the surprise part."

"Well... maybe we could meet up later," Ron said with bit of stammering. "Later in the week. For coffee. Or something."
