Luau: The Main Campfire: Friday Evening

The irony of having a Hawaiian luau while in Greece probably hadn't escaped anyone.  But given that the majority of the students probably couldn't pinpoint Hawaii on the map, it didn't seem like that was enough of a reason to cancel what had become a summer tradition.

So in the early evening, the main campfire was transformed into a party place with coconuts, grass skirts, and leis for everyone.  A pig was slowly roasting over the fire, and a huge moddable buffet spread out to the flagpole.

A dance floor was set up, and Hawaiian music was playing, but there was also plenty of grass spread with blankets for the less-rhythm-inclined.

[OOC:  YAAAAAY LUAU!  Students, teachers, and townies all welcome!]

"Lieutenant Kerrigan," he said quietly, nodding. "I'm sorry I haven't seen you in a little while and that you were bored. Lieutenant Kerrigan died. And then she wasn't dead. I went to her funeral. Not the most fun thing I've ever done. It happened quickly and I'm sorry I didn't say anything but it happened quick and then I had to leave and then there were workshops."

He sighed and looked down at the sand. "River didn't take it well. I didn't take it well either but I'm emotionally stupid sometimes. She died fighting, she came back and she's back and I haven't seen her since then either."

Adah was quiet for a long moment after that, carefully letting that settle in. The Eel's interpretation of it felt a bit more scattered than anything River would have told her, but at least he told her something. Died, was buried, risen again, or something like it. A familiar story, to her at least, bastardized wartime Resurrection. Of course, now her mind couldn't exactly stop ticking on the hows and whys. Reanimated tissues. Doctor meta of Frankenstein could only be so lucky...

Finally, she lifted her eyes, her head, towards the Eel. "You okay?" she asked, a simple question of few words, because she expressed all her concern for him better without words, anyway.

"I haven't really been thinking about it," he admitted, shrugging. "If I do, I won't be okay. If I don't, I can pretend that everything's fine until that's the truth. It was a long few days."

Quiet again for a moment, Adah ended up just nodding lightly. She wasn't sure if she could say that was the best way to deal with it, but, at the same time, she certainly could relate. She wouldn't press any issues. All she would do was simply remind him, "I'm here, though, if you need me..." It rang slightly in her ears as she said it, but she wasn't quite sure why.

"I know you are," he said, pushing any lingering sadness down so he could smile at her and kiss her cheek. "I know I could come find you."

Adah tried to counteract the natural tendency to smile lightly at that kiss on the cheek with a smug lift of her chin. "Good," she stated. "So long as you know, so I don't have to be expected to know what I should be expected to have some sort of super sense to find you instead."

"Smartass," he said and kissed her cheek again. "Though, you got one thing wrong in that statement of yours."

"Doubtful," Adah said with a slight snort. "But try me. Let's hear it. What did I get wrong?"

"No, you did," he said and lowered his voice. "It's not if I need you, it's when I need you. There's no if. I just need you."

The only immediate response that Adah gave to that was the smug expression on her face dropping quickly, with a slow pink blush rushing up to replace it, and she blinked, looking at him, assuming she probably look every bit the small, startled bird that her heart seemed to have become.

"Need," she finally said, quietly, pushing a small crooked grin out as she rolled her eyes. "You're full of it. Need, as if I could ever be as important as air or food or blood." She leaned over to kiss him, something soft and slow and hopefully staving off any chance for him to respond, because she didn't know how she'd handle it if he did.

She was smart because he'd wanted to respond, to tell her just that but then there was kissing and softness and he could put off telling her those things while he kissed her.

While she did always enjoy kissing the Eel, Adah couldn't help wonder slightly when would be long enough to have possibly distracted him from the topic without having it push toward obscene or lead herself to forget about it, either. Her hand lifted to rest lightly against his arm, for support, before drawing away slightly for a breath of air.

He didn't say anything right away, content to look at her for a moment. Then, "Nice way to get me to shut up."

Adah's grin grew a little. "I'm rather fond of the method myself."

"Your methods are sneaky but enjoyable," Lee complimented.

"And, most importantly, effective."

Which, of course, meant that Adah would have to kiss the Eel again before he could even think of disputing that.

And he tried to dispute that, he really did but, again, there was kissing and he would always always always take kissing over talking.

Adah always did prefer proving her point with as little words as possible. It was good to know she hadn't lost her touch, and she celebrated her cleverness by dragging it out a little longer this time.

Sometime soon, Lee would actually say what he meant to say. That sometime was not now. Instead, he was leaning closer, grateful that the sand was easy on his knees and legs so he could and returning her kiss slowly and eagerly.

Adah's hand curled a little against the Eel's arm, fingers lightly gripping his sleeve. If they were going to keep this up, she'd need the little extra support.

[identity profile] stupid-toasters.livejournal.com 2008-05-17 03:18 am (UTC)(link)
Lee wasn't going to make a move to stop. They were sitting far enough back to not be the center of any attention and, really, he didn't particularly care. He ran one of his hands along the arm holding onto him, fingers lightly dancing across skin and fabric.

With a small, appreciative sound, Adah leaned forward a little bit, leaned a bit into the side where their arms were brushing together, and she was extremely hesitant to draw away when she did. She had to breathe sometime, though, and, really, the fact that kissing the Eel made her head swim as it did made it even more difficult to do what she'd otherwise take for granted.
