Good evening from the Fandom High auditorium. I'm CJ Cregg and I'll be moderating the Student Council debates.

Our Format tonight will be as follows:
Students and teachers alike will ask questions of the candidates. [Please submit your questions to the moderator via the appropriate thread] Each candidate
will respond to the question in turn, and I will call on each for their response.

After each candidate has gone, any one may request a further rebuttal to address
a point made by an opponent, the granting of which is at my discretion. The press will have full access and are also encouraged to
contribute questions.

In the case of no opponent, the same format will
apply, although the rebuttals will be unnecessary for obvious reasons.

"Yeah I'm not really clear on it either, we were gonna talk about it today, put I kinda passed out." Paige gestures to the bandage

Angelus gave the bandage a studious look. "What happened?"

Beka nods. "Good evening, Professor Cregg." She looks out at the audience and smiles. "Thank you all for being here tonight to hear what we have to say. I think that's very important. Listening to each other, and learning from each other.

"In fact, I'd say that's precisely what the position of Academic Affairs is about. The fluidity of our environment and the vast differences between members of the student body make being a student at Fandom High an extraordinary experience, but one that can be stressful, challenging, and occasionally--when zombies attack, for example--dangerous. The Academic Affairs liaison's role is to facilitate conversations between students and faculty, to represent the interests of all students, and to be a resource for both faculty and students in resolving matters under dispute."

She takes a sip of water.

"I have one primary goal: building trust campus-wide. I believe that any position on the Council begins and ends with trust. All of the candidates are competent to do their duties or they wouldn't be here.

"Building trust isn't a solitary activity. I rely, in part, on the goodwill of my fellow students and my friends in making this happen. However, as an individual I have been and will continue to build trust by making friends and working with people from all of the parties, all walks of life, and all times, places and skills. As Academic Affairs liaison, I would expand that strategy by organizing voluntary informational seminars about magic, weaponry, genetic enhancements, cross-cultural communication, and other such things. I would also organize mixers for students and teachers to get to know each other in non-threatening, pleasant settings, and where the set-up assures that curiosity would be met with openness and willingness to talk.

"In addition to my own ideas, I would ask my fellow students and the staff what concerns need to be addressed and how they'd like to see that happen. My door will always be open to anyone who wants to talk.

"In conclusion, I'd like to state for the record that whoever wins this seat and the others, I will work with them to make this a better school. I will work with anyone political or not, whose goal is to improve communication through trust."

Rogue takes a seat, with a notebook. She doesn't look like she particularly wants to be here, but she is anyway.

"Hopefully, these debates will help us decide who else to vote for." Piper continues to watch.

Paige shrugs, "I kinda forgot to eat."

Thank you, Miss Valentine. That was...comprehensive. I now open the floor to questions from the audience.

Paige is still looking over at Baltar, she shakes her head slightly as if trying to dislodge a thought, "Yeah hopefully."

::passes a torn-out sheet of notebook paper to Professor Cregg::

To all candidates:

What level of responsibility and accountability do you feel your position will owe to both the student body and to the administration?

Piper follows Paige's gaze to Baltar, slightly amused. "You gonna vote for him?"

We have a question from the audience, Miss Valentine.

Paige bites her lip and blushes, "Erm yeah I think I might."

*looks around*

Well, if this is to be a debate, I require someone to debate with. As for the position of Vice President, well, we all know the office is largely for show, just someone waiting in the shadows for the president to be incapacitated. However, should I be elected, I would not sit still. I would be an approachable liaison between the students and the president. I would do everything in my power to keep the student body peaceful and happy by seeing that their needs and concerns are promptly addressed to the proper administrative officials and then dealt with to the satisfaction of all involved. I believe applying my intellect to the myriad problems that will surely arise in such a diverse population as we have here will result in a positive atmosphere for learning and growth.

Sure. Mmmm. Free food. This thing needs free food. Or a drinking contest or something. So, so bored.

Interesting, Mr. Baltar.

One of your opponents seems reluctant to join us up here. Until he does, please answer this question:

What level of responsibility and accountability do you feel your position will owe to both the student body and to the administration?

Nobody said this was mandatory. I don't do debate.

Mr. Turner, if you do not wish to debate, no one will force you. However, that position makes it clear you do not want to be Vice President and you have wasted everyone's time.

Is that your wish?

Chloe sits down by the door and pulls out her video camera, pressing various buttons to try to get it as focused as possible.

::spots Chloe as she comes in and moves to sit by her::

::whispers:: Hey, Chloe. Haven't seen you in a while.

"Who can resist that accent?" Piper said teasingly, glancing at Paige.

Beka takes a moment to consider this question. The pitfalls are obvious, but she has an answer. "The highest. An officer's role is to serve. To me this means that any action I should undertake in my position would be open to scrutiny by the Administration and my fellow students. I would seek the guidance of students and staff before initiating any action that is not personal in nature."

*blinks*

Why would that make it clear that someone doesn't want to be elected if they don't want to waste their breath standing on stage looking pretty and spewing out carefully rehearsed words? It didn't say anywhere that participating in this was required and necessary to prove you wanted to be elected.

*grins*
