"Maybe I'm dreaming," he said in a somewhat stilted tone. "Or...insane? Maybe I'm insane."

He blinked at the girl before offering a small, half smile, trying to look not so freaked out.

At least this was something Gwen knew how to deal with. "You're not insane," she said, in the same gentle tone she'd used before. "Don't think I can make any guarantees about this place, though."

"That's reassuring," Ned said. Not that he thought she was right about him not being insane but it was nice to hear it out loud. "Maybe I should be insane to deal with this place though."

Not that there weren't worse ways, but she wasn't going to think about that thing with Owen right now.

"Like how?" Ned asked, geniunely interested. "Running away doesn't mean very normal either and that was my next choice."

Gwen thought about it. "I've found acting like it's completely normal no matter what seems to work...eventually."

"Act like it's normal," Ned repeated and shook his lanky frame because he thought shaking the insane out might help. "Act like I belong here?"

"Exactly," Gwen said, nodding and trying her best not to look at any of the shirtless boys as she said it. "Like you've been here for ages and all of this is old."

Ned tried to follow her line of sight but got off track on some of the more unusual looking people wandering around. "What happens if I don't?"

"Then we move onto plan B."

Just as soon as she thought of one, since it usually involved Ianto making smart replies and she didn't have one of those right now.

"You have a plan B?" Ned asked, looking suitably impressed. "I hadn't even managed to form a plan A."

"I'm working on it," Gwen admitted. "It doesn't involve going insane though."

"Yes," Gwen smiled at him. "I think I could do with some help." It might help take his mind off the strangeness.

"Okay," Ned said, already trying to come up with some plan even though he had no idea what the plan was even about. "I'm Ned. I probably shouldn't offer to help you plan something if you don't know who I am. I could be named something terrible like Stinkfoot or something."

Stinkfoot? Ned grimaced and just barely refrained from smacking his head.

Gwen managed not to laugh at him, although her smile did get a bit broader. "Ned's a lovely name." she said. "I'm Gwen. Gwen Cooper."

"Hi Gwen," he said, waving in hope to stifle any attempt at a handshake she might make. "Thank you. My mother gave it to me so I kinda like it. She was kind when she could've been mean."

"Mothers do have that tendency. Most mothers at least." When they weren't planning on ripping their unborn child out of your stomach, at least.

"Well, again, Stinkfoot," he said and he'd yell at himself later for consistently bringing that up. "It could've been a family name that I'd gotten saddled with because I'm the oldest and only son."
