Library [04/28]

Sam didn't have to open the library today, with classes being over and all, but he was pretty sure Maggie would never forgive him if he didn't let her near the books that were here.

"Don't touch anything bad!" he said as she took off running into the stacks. "I'll know if you do!"

He wasn't sure if anyone else would want to bring their kids by, but it was worth a shot.

"Hey, that's all you," Peter said. "Math I do not su... uh, do bad at."

"Nice save," Sam said.

"Does Daddy have to put money in the Bad Word Jar?" Maria asked around a mouthful of donut.

Sam laughed. "No. We have a Bad Word Jar?" he asked. "Chew and swallow before you answer."

Maria was quiet for a few moments as she did as she was asked. "I called a mean lady in the grocery store the bad b-word and now we have the jar and you have to put a dollar in it every time you say something bad and I didn't get to see Uncle Dean for a whole month."

"Did we monitor your phone calls?" Peter asked. He came from a family of lawyers. He knew that saying Maria couldn't see Dean didn't necessarily mean he wasn't being an influence.

Maria nodded. "I'm only allowed to talk on the phone to you, Dad, Uncle Nathan, and people trying to sell stuff 'cause I make them go away."

Okay that was too cute. "How do you do that?" Peter asked.

"I sing at them," Maria said. "And if they don't go away still, I talk really loud."

"Do I ever have you do that to Uncle Nathan?" Peter asked. Because Uncle Dean wasn't the only one who could deserve that kind of thing.

Maria nodded. "Sometimes he asks stuff about you and Dad and you tell me to sing until he stops."

"That's my girl," Peter said. He broke off a piece of his donut and offered it to her as a reward.

Maria bounced and took the offering. "Best Daddy ever."

"Hey," Sam said, giving her a pout.

"Best daddies ever," Maria replied.

"You still like me more though, right?" Peter said, obviously joking.

"I like you both the same," Maria said. "Lots and lots and lots and lots."

"Well that's not fair," Peter said, still very clearly joking. "'cause I like you way more than Sam."

Sam pouted and made a sniffling noise. "I see how it is. That's okay. Maria still likes me and that's what matters."

"No Daddy, you loooove Dad, you say so every day!" Maria said, giggling.

Peter tried to hide any resulting blush from that and instead kept up with the joking. "Are you sure? Because you are way cuter than he is."

"That's 'cause I'm a girl," Maria said. "Girls are always cuter than boys."

"That is a good point," Peter said. "No wonder I like you more."

Maria grinned happily and gave him as tight a hug as she could manage. "More than all the other girls you know?"

Peter gave her a tight hug back. "A million times more. No, wait, a billion."
