Library [04/28]

Sam didn't have to open the library today, with classes being over and all, but he was pretty sure Maggie would never forgive him if he didn't let her near the books that were here.

"Don't touch anything bad!" he said as she took off running into the stacks. "I'll know if you do!"

He wasn't sure if anyone else would want to bring their kids by, but it was worth a shot.

Sam spent the morning checking his e-mail and peering towards the stacks to see what section Maggie was in.

Sam was in the stacks too now, organizing the books and trying to find ones that were child-friendly.

*clings to the kids and makes them all stay*

There'd been a Petrelli sleepover at Uncle Nathan's. It was tempting to stay all day but there were other family traditions to maintain.

So at a time that was approximately 4th period, even though classes were over, Peter came in with Maria. Peter was carrying a tray with two cups of coffee and one hot chocolate. Maria got to carry the bag of donuts.

"Hey Sam."

Maria had a tight hold on the donut bag to make sure she didn't drop it.

"Hi Dad!"

Of course he was with books. He was so predictable sometimes.

"Hey," Sam said, smiling at the both of them. "How was the sleepover?" he asked Peter.

"Nathan's already decided what school she's going to," Peter said. He handed over Sam's coffee. "Hopefully you didn't have a preference there."

"I think it might be a little early to have a preference," Sam said, taking the coffee gratefully. "You didn't get coffee for her too, did you?"

"You don't think she could handle espresso?" Peter replied.

"If you think she can, you can take care of her when she starts bouncing off the walls," Sam said. "Besides, it might stunt her growth, or give her our hair."

"Radio didn't seem to think that was a problem." Peter went to affectionately scruff Maria's hair. "Anyway, it's hot chocolate. Only the grownups got coffee."

Just before noon, Dean wandered in carrying about four times more food than usual. Jake was trailing behind him, intent on the milkshake he was slurping up.

"See, I knew you were going to be here," he said to Sammy. "Really, Sammy. A library's no place to keep kids amused."

"It is too," Sam said, pointing towards where Maggie was sitting on the floor in a circle of books. "It's how some kids stay amused, at least."

"I see I have to work harder on the neice corruption," Dean observed. "So just Maggie with you?"

Maria giggled and brushed at her hair with her hands to make it look pretty again. "I'm gonna be grown up too someday. Then you'll have to buy me coffee."

"Yeah, Peter and Nathan have Maria," Sam said. "They said they'd stop by later though."

"What? You're not gonna buy me coffee?" Peter asked. He gave her a look of sad woefulness.

"Cool. Sparky wanted to spend some time at Grandpa's because there's other girls to play with there. So it looks like it's lunch for four."

"I still can't believe you nicknamed your kid Sparky," Sam said, laughing.

"Hey, it fits her," Dean protested. "She's all perky and firestarting!"

"And of course you'd hook up with a fellow pyromaniac," Sam said. "It's like the perfect match."

"I'll buy you coffee when I'm famous," Maria said. "I don't have to be grown up for that."

"Always gave a new definition to the word hot at least," Dean kidded.

"Promise?" Peter asked. "You won't get so famous you forget to have a coffee with me?"

"I promise," Maria said, giving him a hug. "I won't forget you or Dad."
