Dru's Classroom: the formation of a new club

After his meeting with Grissom, Angelus made his way to Dru's classroom. He smiled. She'd left it for him to open, just as she'd promised.

He opened the door, switched on the lights, searched Dru's supplies for some poster board, then got to work.

It was going to be a long day.

Rory takes a seat, and crosses her ankles, frowning slightly.

"How is it going to be different from tonight's debate, though? Other than the write-ins? And where are you planning on having this event? I mean...I hadn't heard about it until today - are you going to be able to publicize it enough?" she asks, leaning her head on her hand and relaxing a little.

"Welcome to my world," Angelus gave her a sheepish grin. "Had the idea yesterday, got the approval from Bristow right at the end of his office hours, had to hit the ground running today. Plus the extra fun is Bristow said it would have to happen tomorrow night or not at all.

"But call me foolishly optimistic," Angelus sat sideways in his chair, turning to face her. "We're still working on the details. I know tonight's debate is not enough, that much is certain. As for what makes it different - hey, you tell me. You're a candidate. What do you really want to be able to do to let the students know more about you?"

Rory arches a brow, and immediately lowers it. "Ugh, I have to remember to stop doing that. Stupid reflexes," she mutters, touching her bandage.

She turns her attention back to Angelus. "Hmm. I want to be able to show them, somehow, that I actually do care about them. And - oh," she says suddenly, remembering something. "Um, I'm not going to sell out my running mates, but I didn't have anything to do with that...ad about Belthazor yesterday," she says earnestly. "I thought it was unethical and," she wrinkles her nose, "just...disgusting."

She lays her palms on the table and looks at her nails. "I want to find a way to communicate to the students that regardless of where they come from, or what they do in their spare time," she says, shootng a furtive glance at Angelus, "I really do care about making the school a better place for them."

"I knew you didn't do it," Angelus folded his arms over the back of his chair, leaning closer to her as he spoke. "As soon as I saw that ad I said to myself that is something Rory would never have approved of.

"And it's just that kind of thing that I want to highlight," Angelus said. "Make tomorrow night something more informal. Still with questions and statements, we don't want it to be total chaos. But a way for folks to get to know the real you."

Rory offers a lopsided smile and nods. "Okay. I'll be there. Where is it, and is there anything in particular I need to bring, or do in preparation?"

"Logan generously offered up his place," Angelus said. "As for prep - I'll let you know. We're still ironing out the format. Obviously on some stuff we've got to leave you out of the loop - " He gestured to Anakin's table, where Anakin was collecting questions for the debate that night " - otherwise we're not so much non-partisan as we are cheating." He winked at her. "But what you could do for me is contact everybody else on your ticket. Tell them what tomorrow's about and say they're welcome to come if they want to."

"Gotcha," Rory says with a small smile. "But I should warn you - Parker is not going to like this. But then again, I'm not even sure if she's still with the campaign. And I can't promise that anyone else from my ticket'll show," she says apologetically, frowning. "But I'll do what I can."

"Understood," Angelus said. "I know it's last minute. Heck, I'm going to be surprised if I can even pull this off. But if anybody can make it at all I think that'd be great." He grinned. "Even if it's just you, Logan, and me."

Rory smiles, rising to leave. "That would be an interesting group," she muses. "But I'm sure people'll show. I just can't promise anyone from the Hottest Ticket - tensions are running kind of high after last night."

"Yeah, I'd been hearing rumors about that," Angelus gave her a sympathetic grimace. "Stress from the election winding down, do you think?"

Rory shrugs. "I wasn't at the meeting last night - I had my own drama to deal with in yearbook. But apparently Parker and Beka got into a fight over - "

She stops abruptly and blushes deeply. "Um, over a, um...disagreement about something Beka did," she says, staring down at her shoes.

"It's okay," Angelus gave her his most reassuring smile. "I can guess what the topic was."

Rory looks up from her feet and smiles, still blushing. "Yeah...kinda glad I wasn't there. The entire campaign is getting really messy. I'm glad you thought to organize this thing," she says, gesturing around the room. "I appreciate it," she adds, turning to leave.

"I'll keep you posted," Angelus promised. "A lot of this is on the fly, but the least I can do is keep you from getting blindsided."

Rory nods. "If you can't get ahold of me, I have voicemail, and y'know, you can usually pass stuff along to me via Logan," she says, making her way towards the door.

"You got it," Angelus said. "Thanks, Rory."
