Junior Achievers 2nd Meeting

Outside of Dr. Carter's classroom is a neatly handwritten sign which says:

Junior Achievers Meeting

All are welcome

Tonight's topics include:

  1. Welcoming new members

  2. JA's role in the upcoming Student Council Elections

  3. Discussion: Has the yearbook staff overshadowed our hopes for the bake sale?

  4. Any new business

  5. Any words of wisdom from Dr. Carter

Free food provided.

The door to the classroom is wide open. The teacher's desk is vacant, awaiting Dr. Carter. On the desk is an open box of brownies from Deb's Diner.

Angelus sits on top of one of the student desks with his feet resting on the chair of the desk in front of him. He leafs through a notebook, occasionally jotting things down as they occur to him. He is dressed in the same black on black ensemble that he had on earlier in the day, but the pin he wore in Study Hall is missing.

Angelus occasionally hums a cheery tune to himself, and occasionally shakes his head as though disbelieving his own inner thoughts.

[OOC ETA: For the newbies, these meetings work pretty much like Study Hall. Hop in whenever, join whatever conversation. And the refresh key is definitely your friend.]

"I know Angelus from screwing him in the common room study hall. We've talked a bunch in the last few days. That duplicates thing is weird. I have this theory about alternate universes..."

She shook her head. "I'm sure you don't care about that. Anyhow, I'm here because I think JA is effective. I don't agree with everything they're on about, but they'll do more about what matters to me than anyone else."

"What is it with alternate universes? This is really screwing with my head."

[identity profile] valentine-tart.livejournal.com 2005-10-05 05:09 am (UTC)(link)
She cocked her head, considering him. "Where/when I'm from, we have this thing called slipstream travel. It's nearly instantaneous transit through navigable between-space. Sometimes when I'm slip-piloting, I see things. Other paths I don't take. I think those branchings make other timelines, or maybe other entire universes. So that in one universe, Crichton is Crichton. But in another, the same guy is born as Cameron Mitchell." She carefully doesn't mention Future-Beka, or the Nietzscheans.

[identity profile] apocalypsesoon.livejournal.com 2005-10-05 05:15 am (UTC)(link)
"Okay. I'm officially crazy. You sound like you're discussing time travel, and everyone knows that's crazy."

He says this with the studied lack of conviction of someone who knows they're lying.

"The future isn't written."

[identity profile] valentine-tart.livejournal.com 2005-10-05 05:37 am (UTC)(link)
She crosses her arms over her chest and tugs on the end of her braid. The picture of someone who knows she's right. "First, no. Not time travel. Branching timelines. Different theory."

Then she shakes her head. "The future isn't written, no. But time travel is possible. At least where I'm from." There's a bitterness to her tone that suggests she knows firsthand.

[identity profile] apocalypsesoon.livejournal.com 2005-10-05 05:41 am (UTC)(link)
"So I'm not the only one." Almost inaudibly.

[identity profile] valentine-tart.livejournal.com 2005-10-05 05:48 am (UTC)(link)
Beka catches the drift of his words, if not the content. "There are a few of us that I know of who have major time travel events in our history," she says, not unkindly.

[identity profile] apocalypsesoon.livejournal.com 2005-10-05 05:50 am (UTC)(link)
"It's happened before? THey're here? I mean," he said quickly, "there are people from the future here?"

John pales slightly.

[identity profile] valentine-tart.livejournal.com 2005-10-05 06:10 am (UTC)(link)
"Um. Well..." She keeps her voice calm, steady, since he seems alarmed. "I'm from 3500 years in the future. I'm not sure that it's this Earth's future. That's what I mean about branching universes.

"I think the others aren't from the future, so much as they've traveled in time."

[identity profile] apocalypsesoon.livejournal.com 2005-10-05 06:13 am (UTC)(link)
"How's your future? I mean, it IS a future, right? People? Plants? Furry things running around making cute noises?"

He calms down a bit. FROM THE FUTURE doesn't mean from THAT future, JohnnieBoy. Doesn't mean from THAT future.

"Holy shitballs, 3500 years? How the hell?"

[identity profile] valentine-tart.livejournal.com 2005-10-05 06:40 am (UTC)(link)
"It's a future, yes. It's got good and bad." She's wary now, because of course her future is bad, and some of that has to do with her.

"As for how, I don't know. There's a transuniversal boundary at the town limits and 5 miles up. When I hit space, after 5 miles, I'm back in my time and space. It just is.

If you want to know more than that, we probably should get drunk so it'll make sense." She grins.

[identity profile] apocalypsesoon.livejournal.com 2005-10-05 12:12 pm (UTC)(link)
"So... there's a, what, leash law here for dmensional travel? Yeah, that makes my head hurt. Wierd. And booze sounds good."

[identity profile] valentine-tart.livejournal.com 2005-10-05 04:10 pm (UTC)(link)
"Not sure how or why. It just is. It's the sort of thing Sam might be able to figure out. She's a genius. Me? I'm just a girl with a fucked-up history and keen observational skills." Beka grins. "Looks like this party is over. If you want, I'm headed to the bar...?"

(OOC: There's still an in-progress bar thread with Phoebe that Beka's on. If he would want to come, and you want to fill it in, I'll link you. If you just want to assert that he was there, I can NPC his entrance, get him a drink, and let him fade to black (FTB, since you were asking about a lexicon; it's usually used with reference to not writing out a sex scene, but can be used anytime you want to just end a conversation and assert that it happened). If he doesn't want to come, that's totally cool too.)

[identity profile] apocalypsesoon.livejournal.com 2005-10-06 12:40 am (UTC)(link)
"Sam? Sam Carter Sam? Genius? Do tell."

(Hrm. LInk me. I may not get to it for a few hours, but John'll tag along on his way to meet Carter.)

[identity profile] valentine-tart.livejournal.com 2005-10-06 12:48 am (UTC)(link)
"Genius. I don't know more than that she's super super smart. I always see her doing two or three projects at once. And before she went away we had some good conversations about my theories. I know the Refugees look to her whenever they have a science question."

(OOC: You might want to just bag it, since it was actually yesterday, he can call Bek though and she can meet him for drinks after the debates. She'll need one. And Harkness is there and was looking to meet Connor and maybe Beka.)

[identity profile] apocalypsesoon.livejournal.com 2005-10-06 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
(OOC: is tonight the debates? I haven't checked FH or FHD, just answering the 25+ e-mail)

"Well, I think I should be going, as I have to meet this genious of yours and discuss Homecoming. But yeah. We'll have to talk. And you'll have to explain the Refugees."

[identity profile] valentine-tart.livejournal.com 2005-10-06 01:10 am (UTC)(link)
(OOC: Yeah debates are on now. 25+ isn't too bad. Wait til you get into the major mega-threading like the zombie weekend. I had hundreds in a few hours. *rolls eyes* It was fun though. Just hit B's voicemail on her info page if you want to have them hit the bar later.)

Oh! You're going to go to Homecoming with Sam? Awesome. I love her. She's very cool.

We can talk about future stuff. I want to know why you turned pale when I said I'm from the future, and I'll explain what I can about the Refugees. the part that's not classified that I'm not supposed to know

[identity profile] apocalypsesoon.livejournal.com 2005-10-06 01:22 am (UTC)(link)
John got that look on his face. "We'll talk later. We'll talk."

(Argh. John's gotta go buy tickets. or Sam does. I gotta find the homecoming tickets threads.)

[identity profile] valentine-tart.livejournal.com 2005-10-06 01:35 am (UTC)(link)
Beka smiled gently. "When it suits. No pressure."

(Beka originally bought tickets for all of the Colo crowd. Sam wasn't still around, but it's at least arguable that the way I wrote it Sam was covered. Look for the tags of homecoming in the dorm threads?)

Sorry. Forgot you're new. Stargate crew. They call themselves the Colorado Refugees. Most of them operating on the "got sent back as an adult in a teenager body, except maybe Cameron and it's not as clear on the Stargate Atlantis people.

[identity profile] apocalypsesoon.livejournal.com 2005-10-06 01:51 am (UTC)(link)
Ah. Thanks. We return you to your unregularly unscheduled fanwanking. :D

[identity profile] valentine-tart.livejournal.com 2005-10-06 02:53 am (UTC)(link)
NP. Would rather be doing anything than the debates. XD

[identity profile] apocalypsesoon.livejournal.com 2005-10-06 01:39 am (UTC)(link)
(er, Colo crowd? Whozzat?)

"We'll hang. Catch ya later." John starts walking to the door.

[identity profile] valentine-tart.livejournal.com 2005-10-06 01:43 am (UTC)(link)
"See ya round."
