With his new decision to NEVER EVER DRIVE, Lee was choosing today to spend looking up alternate methods of transportation. So far, street luge seemed like the fastest, most exciting and Lee had already thrown out rollerskating (way too girly) and using a pogo stick (because ow).

He even had a list. He was determined to be productive.

"We all get crap, Lee," she sighed. "It doesn't make you special. But for what it's worth, I'm sorry River feels like she has to add to yours."

"I didn't say it made me special," Lee said tightly. "But, you know, you came in and asked and I told you. That's all. As for River, she's made it clear she can't like me. It's hard to change that now that she's told me."

"... Yeah, I asked," Kerrigan acquiesced, with some difficulty. "She's just... she's had a rough time of it."

"I can't help who I like," Lee said quietly. "But I don't like her because River does. I'm not trying to be malicious or to steal anything or anything like that. And I sometimes wonder if she thinks I am."

A wry smile. "She's a teenager too, Lee..." Kerrigan trailed off, just for a moment. "Impossible as it is to remember for her, sometimes."

"I know that," Lee said, nodding slowly. "But she can read things in my mind. Shouldn't she know that I'm not doing it to hurt her?"

"It's easy to get strung up in surface thoughts if you're not careful," she said, simply.

"Is there anything I can do?" Lee asked. "I mean, I don't want her to hate me but I'm not going to stop liking who I like."

"Let her know you're a person without being an ass about it," Kerrigan said, with a shrug. "Hard as that might be to you. Takes a lot for a teep to push past the surface, especially on you hardshells."

"I'm not always an ass," he said and laughed. "I have my moments of niceness."

"Yes," she snorted, smirking, "You're an ass during those, too."

"Am not," he said and made a face at her. "You keep making fun of me and you get no presents whenever your birthday is."

"Won't be here for it," Kerrigan returned, sounding slightly apologetic. "I'm leaving after the graduation. The war effort needs me at home." Just a tinge of self-deprecation on that one.

"Aw, bummer," Lee said, frowning and feeling...some genuine sadness at that. "So, just a few months left then?"

"Yep." She shrugged. "Although I'm thinking about throwing a party early. For River's sake."

"Will there be party hats?" he asked, smiling.

It wasn't like she really knew how these things went, anyway, and maybe an inkling of this showed. "If you want to, knock yourself out," she returned, dryly. "Thinking maybe a week or two from now."

"I should be around if you want me there," Lee said. "And I'd bring a hat."

"I'd like you there, Lee," she said, truthfully. "Make sure it's a stupid one."

"Stupid I can do," Lee said brightly. "Don't even worry about that."

"I won't," she countered, dryly, turning to go. "Wednesday in two weeks, maybe."

"Got it," Lee said. "I'll be there if maybe turns into definitely."

"Catch you later, Adama." She moved for the door, paused, and added, "Don't let the issues bite."

"I'll try, Lieutenant," Lee said, smiling before returning to his work.
