How to Survive Your Own Cooking, Tuesday

"Welcome, everyone, to your midterm. I hope you enjoyed your week away from classes. I apologise for missing last class on such short notice -- I had a minor personal emergency to deal with that kept me away. I trust you all received the email about the midterm being delayed, and have come prepared?" Her smile carried just enough authority to show that class that, if they hadn't, they'd be dealing with her directly. ANd it wouldn't be pleasant. "As I said before, the midterm is composed of three courses: salad, soup, and entree, none of which may be recipes directly from this class. You should find anything and everything you need here in the kitchen. You have fifty minutes, at which point I will be coming around to taste your meals. Time can handwavily be enough for whatever you're making -- yay, Fandom!

"As I said, you were welcome to invite friends and classmates to join in your meals if you wish.

"You may begin."

It wasn't terribly clear what kind of salad Mikey had been trying to fabricate.

Those might have been potatoes, somewhere in there with the pickles and apple chunks.

Liir's here. With hands over his mouth. And a bunny in the pocket on his bag.

Mikey got hung up on the "broth" part with his soup.

Needless to say, there wasn't much in it. Oh, wait! A pea!

.... It was best not to ask.

Really. It really, really was.

A mixture of arugula, dandelion leaves, and romaine lettuce with dried cranberries, walnuts, and a blood orange vinegarette.

A lemon and rice (http://recipes.howstuffworks.com/greek-lemon-and-rice-soup-recipe.htm) soup with a sprig of mint.

A spiced roast leg of lamb (http://southernfood.about.com/od/lambroasts/r/bl60407d.htm).

Beside the lamb are three wrapped candies (http://www.cookingdebauchery.com/cooking_debauchery/2008/02/szechuan-pepper.html).

Liir smiled pleasantly, despite some of the day's upsets. He'd missed Miss Lulu, had in fact been worried about her, and it was nice to see her again. Plus, he'd be able to give her the bag of caramels he'd made up for her.

He'd even incorporated them into his meal.

There's lettuce, cherry tomatoes, cheddar cheese, walnuts, cucumbers and strawberries. Topped with raspberry vinegarette. Yeah, basically she just took a whole bunch of things she likes separately and threw them together. What? It works!

Cream of tomato! This, Carmela feels, is an accomplishment considering the last time she made this kind of soup, "making" involved "dumping a can into a bowl, then putting the bowl into the microwave".

Four oranges were placed on her desk, lined up, as Liir stood in front of her desk with a faint smile. A fuzzy orange little bunny sat in a pocket on the strap of his bag, looking curiously around the room and sniffing thoughtfully.

"These are for you."

He leaned over, carefully, and moved one orange away from the others.

"I don't know what to do with them and I thought, perhaps, you might like them for something."
