How to Survive Your Own Cooking, Tuesday

"Welcome, everyone, to your midterm. I hope you enjoyed your week away from classes. I apologise for missing last class on such short notice -- I had a minor personal emergency to deal with that kept me away. I trust you all received the email about the midterm being delayed, and have come prepared?" Her smile carried just enough authority to show that class that, if they hadn't, they'd be dealing with her directly. ANd it wouldn't be pleasant. "As I said before, the midterm is composed of three courses: salad, soup, and entree, none of which may be recipes directly from this class. You should find anything and everything you need here in the kitchen. You have fifty minutes, at which point I will be coming around to taste your meals. Time can handwavily be enough for whatever you're making -- yay, Fandom!

"As I said, you were welcome to invite friends and classmates to join in your meals if you wish.

"You may begin."

[OCD coming up soon is up! Cook away, little minions! Cook away!]

...he's going to ask her exactly what she ended up doing with the bacon orange. Because that one was just proof of temporary insanity.

"I made them. By, er, accident."

"Or this place thought what was in my head was funny enough to drop it into my lap," he countered. "I was trying an exer--"

He paused.

"Oh. I haven't had a chance to tell you, have I?"

He didn't wait for her to answer.

"Well, I found out what it was over the break and I have to, um, train. Things. My mind. And, er, my magic."

That he still didn't feel comfortable about. Though other factors were helping.

"Books," he said. "The Queen gave me a bookshelf's worth of books. And Altra is teaching me shielding specifically, though I'm having a bit of trouble with that.

"The orange was just supposed to be a visualization exercise."

"I can't do anything yet," he said, not unkindly. "Mistakes don't count. If I can't accomplish a set goal, it's just a convenient mistake."

As Glinda would one day say, he was very much like his mother.
