Saturday Morning, Detention--Danger Shop

In a surprisingly neat hand, the following list had been posted to the door:

Detention: Saturday, February 23

Eve Levine
John Sheppard
Karal Austreben
Liir Thropp
Teyla Emmagan
Yasutora "Chad" Sado

Vala was grinning as they entered, then locked the door behind them. "Good morning, my minions. Welcome to a life of freedom and debauchery, at least until lunch, when you return to your normal everyday routines, which anywhere other than Fandom would be quite dull."

[ooc: OCD a'comin' is up. Play away! ETA: Oops. So, yeah. I forgot to mention that any tools are fully available and moddable.]

Leather pants of this sort, Karal decided, were not al all practical. Nor were they comfortable to wear when they were getting damp from a drizzle.

He'd be happy to get inside a nice warm ship and dump his booty. "Only I have no idea how to begin trying to do such a thing," he said, leaning against a tree while he studied the ship.

Still, he could try, so he tried to be stealthy - not easy to do in damp leather pants - and sneak down to look at it.

"Do you think there's anyone guarding it?" he asked curiously as he snuck after. This seemed like something he might actually be useful at.

Liir's skin still held the blue diamonds and more of them were visible as he was dressed as the 'detention' required: black leather vest and well-fitted leather pants.

Karal blew an errant curl out of his eyes, hoisted his booty higher, and looked back at Liir. "I'm choosing to believe that there isn't," he said. "Knowing the professor from two classes, I suspect the challenge will be in getting inside and getting away."

And thank Vkandis that Gavin had shown him how to fly in the simulator, and that he had memorised everything about that day. "Though I'm not sure how we get in."

"Generally," he said, thinking of the rooftops of the Emerald City, or the windows of the tower at Kiamo Ko even, "there isn't much guarded up high since most assume such places are unaccessible."

He pulled the broom from his hip and nudged Karal's hand with it.

"Shall we?"

Karal's eyes widened and he beamed at Liir. "That is brilliant!" he exclaimed. "If there is a way in from the roof, it likely won't be locked." He looked down at the booty in his arms. "Though this might make it difficult to hold on to you. What if I remain here and keep watch, while you see if there is a way in? If there is, you might be able to unlock the door from inside."

He nodded and slung his leg over the broom, holding tightly to the handle as he pushed off. He rose from out of the brush, nodding firmly to Karal before pressing his thumbs to the handle and accelerating towards the ship. Rather, the top of it.

Karal watched him go, then turned his attention outwards, trying to become one with the trees and the brush and the rocks.

One with the rocks was proving to be easier that he thought, given there were several in his shoe.

A thumping noise caught his attention and he dropped down flat behind a bush, watching as two guards strolled past him and past the ship.

They didn't look up, thankfully, and seemed to be rather distracted, to judge by the snippets of conversation that floated back to him as they progressed on. "...an African or a European swallow?"

Liir landed on the top of the ship and looked around the metallic monstrosity for something that looked like an opening. He found it shortly, a hatch of some sort that was relatively light (lighter than it'd looked). It led to a darkened room, lit only by a few windows to the outside. It took him a few minuts to find his way towards the main entrance (or the bottom entrance or whatever) but eventually he managed to open the hatch there and lower it slowly to the ground.

Karal scampered over, quick as a bunny, and dashed into the ship. "Glory, I'm glad you had your broom!" he said, looking around. "There were guards, so we'd best leave as quickly as we can."

"I always have my broom," he said with a roll of his eyes as he pulled the hatch back up.

"Do you have," he said quietly, almost a whisper though he was quite sure they were alone in the ship, "any idea of how to work this thing?"

He nodded towards a hallway.

"This way up to what I think is the main room."

Karal set his booty safely down, then trotted down the hallway. "I may have half an idea," he ventured, peering into the control room. "I think. Gavin once showed me how to fly in the simulator. I remember, and this looks similar enough." He stood a deep breath, and nodded once. "I can try, in any event."

"You'll have a much better chance than I would," he said, happy to sit back and let Karal figure it out. It looked all too complicated.

No matter how badly he got it wrong, the worst that could happen was they wouldn't get away. With that in mind, he sat in the chair, closed his eyes briefly to call up his one and only time in the flight simulator.

It took some time, and some entirely unexpected beeping noises, and one wailing protest, but he finally got it started. "You definitely have to sit down, and do up the safety straps," he said, buckling himself in.

"These things?" he asked, holding up the odd 'buckle'.

He attempted to figure it out, but made sure to hold on.

"All right. Vkandis watch over us," he said fervently, in something that was clearly a prayer.

The ship lifted, wobbled, hit the ground again, lifted...Karal held his breath, worked the controls, prayed some more, and this time the ship kept lifting.

Pity he had no idea that he was supposed to retract the landing gear. Even if he had, he wouldn't have known how.

As a result their progress was slow, bumpy, and wobbling more than any ship should. "Horses are much better," he muttered.

"I've never rode one," he admitted shakily. "But I prefer my broom, yes."

There was a long pause, though, before he asked.

"Are you sure you know what you're doing?"

"Absolutely not sure, not in the least." He'd never wanted Gavin so badly in his entire life. "Sunlord take the thing." With another deep breath, he made himself relax, which made his hands relax, which let the ship smooth out a touch.

"All right," he said. "As long as we're clear on that."

Though he smiled at Karal as the ship smoothed out a little.

Oooh. Hello, ship. Save for the fact that the most complicated machine that Chad had ever driven before had been a car, this shouldn't be too difficult, right? How much different could one be from the other? He took a quick glance around, trying to size up the situation to see how tricksy high-jacking the thing might be, and then remembered that he had crap for stealth, anyway, so he just made a break toward what looked like an open hatch into it, and then hope the place had good design so he wouldn't have to worry about looking too hard for the cockpit.

Steal gold, steal a ship, and fly said ship? Best. Detention. Ever. John was positively gleeful as he headed for the cockpit.

Rain, yaaaaay. Eve ignored it as best she could and moved stealthily through the woods.
