Mac opened up the library particularly early today.

Probably feeling bad about being ill last week.

"Ooo," Peter said, with sympathy. "Yeah, that's cheating. Definite violation of the little sibling handbook. We get to use the puppy eyes and in turn you get to blame stuff on us during the years we don't know how to talk."

"Learning that now, doesn't really help me. Since all my siblings, both real and kinda fake are old enough to talk back."

Peter looked at her curiously. "Kinda fake?"

"Switched at birth," she explained, gesturing at herself. "So, I have the brother I grew up with, and the sister who I'm actually related to, but never knew."

Peter boggled. "I did not know that. Wow."

"Not something I necessarily open with," Mac explained with a shrug. "I've only known for a couple of years, and my parents still have no idea that I know."

"If you don't mind me asking, how'd you find out?" Peter asked.

"Never really fitted in with them," Mac said. "They're... really different from me. So, I asked Veronica - I'm not sure if you'd remember her or not - to look into it. She's the one who found out, and told me who my real parents were."

"Did you talk to them?" Peter asked. "Do they know?"

Mac shook her head. "Didn't seem much point," she said. "It just would've hurt them that I looked into it in the first place."

"I haven't told Ma about my powers," Peter said. "Nathan knows, obviously, but we both agree she'd just be burdened if we told her."

"There are really just some things they're better off not knowing."
