Library [02/21]

Coffee in one hand and laptop tucked under the other, Bridge does some creative juggling in order to fish out the keys to the library from his pocket.

The library is open.

"Yes, I read the entire book. It was quite interesting. I suspect I'll be checking out another today as well." G'Kar listened intently to the rapid-fire speech, nodding occasionaly.

"Tell me, if you have a Special Collections section but it is against the rules to access such, why is it there? Would that not defeat the very nature of a library? How would one gain knowledge if they are forbidden from it?"

He smiled. "And you seem like a very nice if overly enthuastic young man. I am G'Kar." He shook the hand that was offered him, glancing briefly at the gloved hand. Before he realized it, he said, "You are a telepath." It was less of a question, more of a statement.

"I see. That is a whole different situation then. For a moment, I was concerned that a library would have an 'off-limits' section. But there is knowledge that is in fact very dangerous to have, so perhaps it is a good thing."

His face fell slightly as his previous words dawned on him. "Forgive me. I simply made an assumption, without really thinking about it before hand. I was probably still thinking about something from earlier that prompted it." He thought for a moment. How best to answer this question? "Where I am from, with only a few rare exceptions, human telepaths wear gloves." He'd had a number of discussions as to why with Lyta. Thinking about her was probably what caused his slip. Bad diplomatic form. "I apologize for any offense I may have caused."

"Books that bite? How...fascinating." Dangerous reading just took on a whole new meaning for G'Kar.

"Ah yes, the whole different worlds aspect. That is why I should not have made any initial assumptions." He wasn't completely sure if Bridge was entirely unoffended, but G'Kar let it go for now. "Telepaths are actually quite common. All races have them - Human, Minbari, Centauri. Narn, my species, also used to have telepaths." He sighed a little. "But that was a very long time ago. We are now the only race that does not have them."

It was so much disappointing as it was sad fact. The revelation of what really happened to the Narn telepaths... Well, it was old history now.

"Different yes, telepaths were..." he paused briefly. Necessary to win a horrible war was *definitely* not the diplomatic thing to say. "Fairly common to all races. I find it interesting at the wide array of people here at Fandom. Earth has many different representations."

G'Kar arched an eyeridge. He was fairly certain that the Earth he was familiar with had no atmosphere to speak of, not even an artifical domed one like at the Mars colony.

"Some things I find less unusual than others. Alien species, telepaths - they are common to me. Things like magic?" He lightly tapped the book on the counter. "Very odd."

"Magic really only exists in fairy tales on my world. I am not certain about other worlds." Though there was that time on the station... "Are you familiar with a tale about a king and a group of knights that he created?"

"Yes. I once met a man claiming to be him."

"This man was very much alive. And no, he was not a vampire." The station command staff eventually discovered who he really was. And that was a near shame. "But I did provide him with some assistance. We talked late into the evening and he told me I was worthy to be one of his knights." G'Kar purposefully did not mention the amount of alcohol he'd consumed that night. And the subsequent passing out.

"I don't believe I've encountered a vampire before. They steal a person's life force, do they not? The closest I've come to that is a SoulHunter."

"Sounds like the definition of vampire to me." G'Kar grimaced. "SoulHunters are not pleasant. They do not merely steal one's life, they take the soul. They claim they are 'saving it for prosperity' when they are really depriving the soul of it's natural order."

He frowned even further. "They also only take particular souls. Those they consider 'important'. As if one being is of greater value than another. All life is precious. So the Minbari say. I happen to agree."

G'Kar simply nodded. "They are shunned by all worlds. Yet still they persist. One of them tried to take a friend of mine. Fortunately, he did not suceed."
